Very true. And i wish my work was like theirs. If i get things right, i am a hero, if i get them wrong it's because someone sabotaged it, or/and i need more money to get them right. Couldn't miss.
They seem to use smaller 2.5" hard drives, like the ones in notebooks. It does mean smaller power consumption and less noise, but what does that do to performance is yet to be seen. Maybe they are betting on time to make them faster and technologicaly more advanced. Yet, after i read an article at TomsHardware about doing raid with 2.5" disks, i am a believer! Not!:)
Speak Freely supports encryption, and is really free as in GPL. The source is there, if someone hacked it to make it work with this device, it would be interesting.
You are right, VCD quality doesn't compare with the original DVD. But what about SVCD? With the right tools and enough time in your hand you can get good quality SVCD, around 45mns in a 80mn cd, and with much much better quality than VHS tapes. I do that to the footage i take from my daughter using a Sony DCR-IP7 microDV camera, and since this camera model is not standard DV and uses MPEG2 to fit everything in those tiny tapes, the quality is just about the same. Search for tmpgenc @ google and you will be surprised.
Yes, and it has to be expected, at least in machines with VIA chipsets. VIA pci implementation is something out of a comic book, to say the least. Refer to http://www.tecchannel.de/hardware/817/index.html for some light on the problem.
You worked at SGI in that period and were playing bzFlag every day in office? And even had an available 8 cpu 16GB SGI Onyx 2 machine to play it on? Jeeez, now i know why i have to pay so much for my SGI machines.;-)
Or use Cipe. It comes with Redhat 7.X already and it has a WindowsNT/2000 client. Works like a charm and guess what, it is NATable. No fiddling with firewals. Try that with Ipsec, folks.
Your post sounds like a case of classical penis envy to me... and after reading from your journal, seems that you, tired of the situation, one day you called work sick and decided to declare shrunk as a new personal standard.
Flamebait or not, i dont know where people get the idea that is cheaper to employ a MCSE. Good professionals are hard to find, and they cost big bucks all the same. If companies looking to hire people take a MCSE at face value without considering anything else, then they just deserve an Enron like death. And facts do show that MCSE indeed expect to get well rewarded just because they are MCSE, even with no previous experience whatsoever. And don't get me started on the cost of hiring the average "in which iso (sic) layer is routing" MCSE around.
If you reread what i wrote, you may eventually notice that i was not countering anything the other poster said. I was just adding information to his post, lots of people do think mobile phones are cheap to make because of the cost of those prepaid and pay as you go packages. So chill out, man, this is not a combat simulation and not everybody is going against you in your side of the highway.;-)
Those £29.99 are probably below cost. Your mobile phone company is betting on covering costs after you recharge it with money. That is why the phone and/or sim card is locked to that same provider. Unlock the phone and your mobile phone company is loosing money. Also, it is not unheard of in some countries for mobile phone companies to really rig the prices down in order to increase user base until certain goal is reached. It helps share prices in needy times for example.

3ware controllers worked best for me, been using them for two years now. With the 3ware 3DM software you can add and remove disks, and rebuild the array(s) at will, even with standard disk trays. Just make sure the trays you use really cut the power to the disk when your turn the key to pull the drawer. Some drawers don't do that. Also, some drawers with included fans seem to have a issue where they suck too much power from the drive electronics, and under stress may have problems. To solve it, i removed those fans making sure the air flow inside the machine was optimum. At $99 for a 3ware escalade 6400 (4 ports), with real hardware RAID5 and supporting the latest ATA drivers, they are a complete steal.
I play old ZX Spectrum games in my Psion pda. ZX Spectrum was a Z80 game computer from the eighties that sparked many clones. Not that popular in the other side of Atlantic (cloned as Timex Sinclair), in Europe that machine was very popular. But emulators are available for Windows CE devices, and even Gameboy. Check http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html
Dint't see anyone mentioning this, but aren't your desks by any chance fancy ones with motorized control? You have a control that makes them higher or lower, among other things? I've had that problem in my company, where engineers loved those desks more than mom, and monitors would simply flicker from being near the engine under the table. I told them to fix the tables to their preference and then unplug the engine from the power socket.

Sure. In data transfer speed. But what about seek times? It's probably the main issue with 2.5" hard disks.

What is the new? AOL/Time Warner? Well, talk about jumping from the pan into the fire.

Or at least by spending when they can save.

Or people with lot of money that want to have even more money. Rich people don't get rich by spending. :)

I beg to differ. The Mach 3 i use has a revolutionary vm called triple-blade shaving system. Try it yourself.

5% faster and it that it just crashed twice a day. Very stable they will say.
