As for his ability to defend himself, I don't see how that's relevant. Should they only sue people who can defend themselves? If a homeless guy murders you, should he just be released because it wouldn't be fair for an experienced DA to prosecute him if he can't afford to hire a really good lawyer? It's a non sequitur.
I believe the analogy here is flawed. Murder is a criminal offense and if the homeless guy didn't have the funds to retain a lawyer, the state provides one. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe the state provides a public defender for civil cases.

Actually in most states, anyone the age of 18 or above is considered a legal adult. 21 is when we get the priviledge to drink alcohol, not much else.

    From the article:
The teenage shooters, who each pleaded guilty to reckless homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, will be held at a state juvenile detention center until they turn 19. The law in Tennessee allows them to remain in the custody of the state Department of Children's Services until they are 19, but no longer.

This is simply saying that they cannot be held in a juvenile detention area after they turn 19. Most states have similar laws about the age limit of someone held as a juvenile.

"Maybe, but I don't see them going all the way as to more or less threaten the government of an entire country"

Are you absolutely certain about that? If they're going to go so far as to threaten the government of an entire country (Australia), who's to say they wouldn't have the brass to try it here?

We've seen Microsoft pretty much ignore and circumvent our Department of Justice, with no real retaliation. We've seen media companies push through legislation that tramps upon the rights of the people just becuase they can. With the way things are going, I would be surprised if Microsoft couldn't get some sort of law passed on the importation of a circumvention device, provided they threw enough lobbyists at it.

Perhaps someone should think a moment before flaming someone. If you look at the business end of a laser when it's not on, there is no danger. And if you're looking for dust particles then you wouldn't have the laser on now would you?

I think I'll hold off for the card following in the 'Heroin' line. The Mobile All-in-Wonder: Submissive Girl Edition.

Like it's predecessor, the new submissive girl line will include a full bar (hence the submissive part) for when you (or preferably the 'female specimen', as it's known in the ATI control panel) really need that shot of vodka. The new mobility feature actually allows geeks to go into the 'big blue room' to acquire the girl.

In addition to the above you also get remote control features. Yes, with remote control features, your new All-in-Wonder can actually go and get the girl for you. No more wandering down the driveway hoping your dream date will come to you.

And of course the reason you would get a card like this, Video Capture and playback. Now you'll have the ability to capture those intimate evenings provided by this new line as proof to all that you CAN get a girl.

  8. My Experience on Laser Vision Surgery for Developers? · · Score: 1

I had the surgery done about 2 years ago. With heavy astigmatism in both eyes, the left able to see at 20/70 and the right at 20/800. I know that for me wearing glasses all the time would give me severe headaches after staring at the screen for hours on end. Not to mention the annoying habit of rubbing my nose raw. I can tell you now my vision is 20/20 in the left and 20/40 in the right. My night vision has not really been affected at all and I stare at a computer screen for 12-14 hours a day. I still go swimming and skiing without any problems. The doctor has a hard time finding the flap that they cut in my eye.

It pretty much boils down to the surgeon. Ask yourself these questions:
1.) How many surgeries has he done
2.) How many of those surgeries were successful
3.) What school did he go to?
4.) How long has he been practicing?
5.) When was the last time the laser was calibrated?

In the end, it's your eyes and they don't have a convenient replacement procedure for them yet. Are glasses and contacts too uncomfortable or inconvenient for you? Will you want to have the surgery again in ~20-30 years? (It may be necessary to have another surgery down the line)

For me it was worth it and I have not experienced any negative side affects from it since it has been done.

BTW, it's really cool when they fold the flap back during the surgery. Your vision just turns into blobs of multi-colored jello =)
