ZFS supports file preallocation. No support for direct-to-disk io, but if you're using multiple disks, it can stagger/interleave blocks across disks and read/write faster than using 1 physical disk for large io.

It's very easy to demonstrate reliability. You overwrite your HFS+ disk with /dev/random and I'll overwrite my zfs disk with /dev/random.

    here is the story.

"The female sexual response cycle appears as a gradual (sometimes maddeningly so) upward slope from excitement to orgasm, with several 'false peaks' in the plateau region. Anyone who's ever performed cunnilingus while kneeling on a hardwood floor can attest to the validity of this representation. The male cycle differs radically. The transition from excitement to plateau in men is rather rapid, represented by a near-vertical line. The plateau stage is then almost horizontal for varying amounts of time (see: premature ejaculation) followed by another extremely rapid ascent into orgasm. Playing video games often reminds me of the above."

Apple could have included HFS read/write abilities in the Windows version of iTunes if they wanted to. FAT32 is more "open" (in that pretty much everything can read it) than ZFS ever will be. ZFS is great, but it's a poor choice for an iPod.

CoreJavaScript (the KDE Javascript engine used in OS X Webkit) had raw socket support added a few months back. SSH and VNC might be a little iffy, but email would be trivial. Even more interesting: The google web toolkit allows you to compile java code to a javascript webapp. There were a few bug reports a few months back that alluded to building OS X Dashboard widgets with it. Imagine if you could write/debug java code, then compile it as javascript to run on your iPhone (or OS X/KDE desktop).
