I too haven't used freenet. However, for any filesharing system to work, you really need a critical mass of users. If a new users checks it out and can't find the latest Ashley Simpson music, he isn't going to stick around and share his stuff.
the RIAA's lawsuits have targetted people who make their music collection available for download in order to decrease the amount of music available and make kazaa, limewire, etc. less appealing.
Since freenet doesn't seem to have the critical mass that other services have, and in theory, getting user information is impossible, they've so far left it alone.
the PPC was designed for emulating. MS bought virtual PC a few years back, and has tight control over the XBox hardware, so there's less variation than with many emulated systems. The XBox features 3 PPCs (6 hardware threads) running at 3.2Ghz. Emulation is certainly possible.
register globals, magic quotes, session url rewriting, etc. can be set via the.htaccess file.

the simple and obvious solution is to abolish the income tax and replace it with a sales tax of some sort. The would stop penalizing domestic products and help equalize the pricing of foreign products. And it would not run afoul of WTO rules, tariff limits, etc.
Prior to the income tax most federal gov't revenues came from tariffs on imported goods, which helped the development of US industry.

the movie distribution/theater business model is a little more complicated.
Generally, the first week a movie is out, the theater gets 5-10% of the ticket price, the distributor gets 90-95%. Those percentages change as the movie ages, but most movies don't last more than 2-3 weeks. Occasionally there's a "Star Wars" or "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" or "Passion of the Christ" with a long lifespan, so the theater can make actually make money off the ticket sales.
For most movies, the only profit source is overpriced concessions.
We got a call from our provider, they had received a few letters from a couple of lawyers. They requested EZT to be shut down immediately, otherwise we and the hosting service would be sued.

Perhaps a better question is "what right do you have to trample over the performer's wishes wrt their music?"
If a band wants to allow fans to tape their shows and gives copies to all their friends, fine. That's their right. However, if they don't want to allow it, that's also their right.
Or maybe the creator's rights only matter when it's GPL software being "stolen" for use in closed source commercial software.

it would be nice if/. replaced the gif images with svg. but face it, they spent 5 years ignoring requests to replace them with png (there are plenty of commandline utilities to convert gifs to png). This is a site that still uses a crappy, non-compliant, table-based layout so people that still use Mosaic or Netscape 1.0b won't be denied links to the goatse man. Nevermind that Alistapart did a nice xhtml redesign of the front page. These are "editors" who don't bother to check if a story has already been posted within the last 2 days before they post a dupe^2.
So What are the chances that slashdot will start using svg? It would be nice, but it would also require plenty of work vectorizing or designing new icons. Given the "honorary mexican" work habits of the editors, it's not goign to happen.
