what services do they use a lot of? My local university has their own libraries, police department, and pays for the "free" municipal bus routes (all paid for by tuition and admin fees). A large chunk of my property taxes are paying for 1-12 education. how many college students also bring along their 6-18 yo kid?
My state has two programs that limit the property taxes for people who own their primary residence, so people who buy a house and rent it out to students (or others) pay higher property taxes.
There are fundamental differences between sudo (with or without a gui), the os x permission prompt, and what this patent is describing.
sudo: user specifies command which needs to be run with elevated security.
os x (authorization services) : program requests authorization for specific operations, releases it when done
ms (I only read enough to see it isn't sudo): if a system call is made with insufficient privileges, the os pops up a window asking for an admin password. Similar to os x authorization services, but the programmer/program doesn't ask for the authorization beforehand.
In postgres (or pretty much every adult sql database) you can create post insert/update/delete/ triggers which automatically log changes into an audit table. On the server side. Atomically. Entirely transparent and independent of the client. That's a little easier, safer, and cleaner in my book.
I've been using triggers to file a copy into an audit table for years. Standard stuff. Maybe not for the average mysql guy, although mysql 5 should be able to do that kind of thing.
I started off with a linksys nslu2 -- slug -- reflashed with debian. Those are 266 Mhz ARM (mine was dumbed down to 133 and I didn't ever get around to performing the surgery required to bump it back up) with 32M ram, 2 usb ports, and an ethernet (10MBit?) port. The RAM was too limited, so I replaced it with a qnap 409 (256M Ram, ~512Mhz ARM) RAID box with 4 SATA slots, 3 USB ports, and a 100MBit ethernet port. That was reflashed with debian as well and I love it.
I don't know why they'd have a problem with the CDDL... they have support for dtrace, which is also CDDL. The CDDL only applies to the contents of the original files, and zfs is down in the darwin level where most everything is already open source. Maybe they wanted more explicit patent protection/indemnification given that they're becoming a patent troll magnet.
This is a classic troll from the turn of the century.
They said nothing of the sort. They said customers prefer a traditional OS vs a browser-only OS.
I use 10 minute email when bugmenot fails.

XMLHttpRequest (originally ActiveX) did.
Maybe you should also patent that really small penis you've been playing with.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Linux uses the GPL v2, which doesn't have anti-tivo provisions. Tivo uses linux. Chrome OS uses linux.
As a developer working on a queef app, I hope so!
PS -- ladies, get your pussies ready!
good luck playing halo on a ps3.
if you need real-time monitoring of your credit report to buy a house, maybe you shouldn't be buying a house.
I guess you didn't see wolf blitzer on celebrity jeopardy.

If your database doesn't do that stuff for you already, maybe you should look into one that supports triggers or foreign key constraints.
Webkit is LGPL. Cups is GPL. Their gcc fork is GPL.
I learned c++ back before the STL was, er, standard.
I guess you've never used PHP.
HFS/HFS+ is B-tree-based.

create post insert, update, and delete triggers which file the data (as well as the action, timestamp, and user) into an audit table.
Seriously, many of the "problems" aren't.
aside from webgl, there's also canvas. Take a look at some of the google chrome canvas demos sometime.
Newer stuff to consider: qnap 419 (1.2 ghz arm), openRD client (1.2 ghz arm), sheevaplug (the walwart computer)
No shit. I can't wait to switch to Windows 7 with the totally awesome WinFS.

When wide-anus and stall-(as in bathroom)-man get together, watch out!
