    Elements of Style says:

Form the possessive singular of nouns with 's.

Follow this rule whatever the final consonant. Thus write,

    Charles's friend
    Burns's poems
    the witch's malice

This is the usage of the United States Government Printing Office and of the Oxford University Press.

Exceptions are the possessives of ancient proper names in -es and -is, the possessive Jesus', and such forms as for conscience' sake, for righteousness' sake. But such forms as Achilles' heel, Moses' laws, Isis' temple are commonly replaced by

    the heel of Achilles
    the laws of Moses
    the temple of Isis

The pronominal possessives hers, its, theirs, yours, and oneself have no apostrophe.

    ---

I think we can all agree that Linus is on par with Jesus and therefore a single apostrophe is correct.

ZFS isn't a traditional file system; it's also an LVM and raid system. So it doesn't fit into the linux model and making it work with linux would require other kernel changes.

Anyhow, file systems are not part of the kernel. They're separate binaries that communicate with the kernel (or with FUSE) through a documented API (ie, the vfs). So if btrfs doesn't require kernel changes, Apple (or a 3rd party) could use the GPL btrfs source to create a GPL OS X btrfs file system.

Wikipedia lists 4 criteria in deciding fair use:

    2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
    3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
    4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

I know /. likes to think redistributing mp3s is fair use since it's lossy compression and people wouldn't have bought the song anyway, but that's a very tortured explanation and out of touch with reality.
