  1. Same as last week's? on LotR Two Towers Trailer Online · · Score: 1

So is this the same one that was going around last week, or is it a new one?

  2. All digital, prints from an online photo-finisher on To Digitize or Not Digitize the Family Photo Album? · · Score: 1
In the last year, I've switched to all-digital for my photography. When I want prints, there are services like OFOTO or Snapfish that provide prints at reasonable prices. With them, I get a real print on Kodak paper which I know will last longer (and probably look better) than anything my inkjet can do, and it's probably cheaper too.

I've had 35mm processing from Snapfish, and ordered digital prints from both of the above, and the quality is excellent.

To get a full 24 digital prints (the average roll of film) would cost about $13 shipped... which is more than you'd pay for processing a 35mm roll. However, you have to consider that you're not paying for the film, and you also know you're only getting prints you want. How many of us _want_ every print off every roll of film? There are always bad ones and with digital you're not paying to print them.

  3. Re:Purchase CDs? on AudioGalaxy Reaches Settlement With the RIAA · · Score: 1

As a musician, is it your policy to let the RIAA take away your money? If you want to sell me your CD at a reasonable price, without artificially adjusting the price to give money to people who don't deserve it, I'll gladly buy it from you. Or, if you release a single of the one worthwhile song, I'll gladly buy that.

  4. Re:Purchase CDs? on AudioGalaxy Reaches Settlement With the RIAA · · Score: 1

Personally, I think it's a ripoff when we have to pay $12-$18 for a CD that only has one good song on it. I usually use AG (or used to) to pick up songs that aren't out on CD yet, or to check out the rest of an album to see if there's anything good on it.

My personal policy: if I have 4 MP3s from an album, I go out and buy the CD.

  5. Re:RMS has some excellent points on RMS Replies to "The Stallman Factor" · · Score: 1

    >I agree with him that it is a shame that the kernel is managed with bitkeeper, instead of an open source alternative. If the GNU project has done one thing well, it is that he has proven beyond a doubt that that free software can be superior to proprietary software.

"Can be superior" is the key there. In Linus' opinion, BitKeeper is superior to the free alternatives. Linus maintains the kernel, so that's his choice to make. Just because there is a free alternative doesn't automatically make it better. If the use of BitKeeper bothers GNU so much, why doesn't GNU develop a capable replacement?

  6. Re:Some good points on RMS Replies to "The Stallman Factor" · · Score: 1

If Linus is the kernel developer, and he thinks he needs something the caliber of BitKeeper to maintain it-- that's his right. I 100% agree with Linus on this-- if you want him to switch to something open, write him something open that will do the job!

This would be a good point, except the flaw that caused the Challenger accident was in the booster, not the shuttle itself.
