One thing linux has that windows doesnt: People who are ready and willing to go thru the source of things.
Its quite hard to hide spyware in source code, and some users just wont use rpms, they compile everything natively.
If you havce some former luser who switches to linux, hopefully the guy who switches it for him (or if he actually has the knowledge to do it himself) will be smart enough to browse all the security updates for any linux apps.
Besides, i think kill -9 works quite well as an extension to spyware, dont you?

If its a computer at work, then IT will have your ass for installing software they didnt approve:)
But at home, you might have a case if the spyware was installed by someone who doesnt own the computer and cnat prove you gave them permission to install software. But you = $$, spyware = $$$$$$$$$$$, guess who wins in our financially independant court system? >:)
doubleclick.net and other mega advertising and tracking dont get this stuff, we're okay:)
luser - I feel im being watched, but i check my cubicle 5 times a day and theres nothing there. HellDesk - oh yes, thats doubleclick.net's new watching you everywhere integrated into IE.
Are you a medium to large buisiness?
Probably not, youre just a home cunsumer like the rest of us. Medium to large businesses can afford to pay dell what it would lose by going against M$, consumers cant.
(sometimes its best to let a dead giant lay, but im going to bring it up anyway);)
Im of the opinion that Napster, Morpheous, Kazaa, Gnutella, they are all tools. Software cannot be blamed for its users actions. Admittingly, napster was a fool for keeping a central database, but in the end i dont think napster was responsible for violating the RIAA's pockets. The users where the ones that stole from the RIAA, not napster. Hell, i could use CVS to trade MP3s, you going to try to stop me from running a CVS server too? How about FTP? Window$ Networking? you going to stop all of those because they stop you from crushing the consumer? I dont think so.
The RIAA should step off its money bag and start producing incentives for people to buy the content. DVD music for example - make it cheaper (oh, i know perfectly well it cost you less then a $1 to produce, there is no justification for charging $25 except to line your bulging pockets) and put some goodies on it.
I envision a $15 audio DVD, where $8 goes to the record label for production and marketing and whatnot, but the other seven ACTUALLY MAKES IT TO THE ARTIST. (yeah right they say, like well ever actually pay the artists).
I can actually see people buying a $15 dvd audio disc, as that would kick the crap out of the lowly 128k/s song off the internet.
Well, astronaughts in space have to maintain a vigorous excersice program to keep fit. So yes, if we managed to lower gravity in homes, we would be unfit if we tried to come back to normal gravity. But if the entire continent/earth whatever had this same gravity reduction, then youre fit in the same sense you are today.
i dont know what all these commercial displays offer, besides a high quality display.
What i think you could do, is laminate the bottom of the glass with a semi opaque something or other, and project onto that. Then you would have to use some sort of LCD shutter glasses and a very high refresh on your projector.
I know in the past there used to be cheap shutter glasses with a video card adapter or driver that automatically turned openGL or mabye Glide, not sure which, into the Left-Right images used by the glasses to give the monitor a "3D" look.
Im pretty sure LCD shutter glasses come pretty small nowadays, but it might take some custom software to actually get a 3D os in the air.
Unless i completely missed the point and you dont even want a 3D desktop:)
as for Finger/hand tracking, i know of plenty of research going on at my college about this, particularly in gesture recognition, but i dont know of any commercial products, besides maybe the two "virtual" keyboards featured previosly on slashdot - (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/03/20/12352 44&mode=thread) and one other that i cant find the link to atm, that you were on your wrists and it "feels" where your fingers are.
(2) PERSONAL USE COPIES. -- No person may apply a security measure that uses a standard security technology to prevent a lawful recipient from making a personal copy for lawful use in the home of programming at the time it is lawfully performed, on an over-the-air broadcast, premium or non-premium cable channel, or premium or non-premium satellite channel, by a television broadcast station (as defined in section 122 (j)(5)(A) of title 17, United States Code), a cables system (as defined in section 111(f) of such title), or a satellite carrier (as defined in section 119(d)(6) of such title).
This bill proposes to deal with software, but i dont see anything in that excert about making a backup copy of software.
Please correct me if im wrong.
SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
The Congress finds:
(1) The lack of high quality digital content continues to hinder consumer adoption of broadband Internet service and digital television products.
The high costs of broadband continues to hinder the consumer adoption of broadband internet and digital TV.
(3) Because digital content can be copied quickly, easily, and without degradation, digital programming and content owners face an exponentially increasing piracy threat in a digital age.
Because digital content can be copied quickly, easily and without degradation, manufacturing and distrobution costs are dropping to all new lows while profits are rising to a peak.
As stated in the article, these rockets dont lift right cause they cant balance the power of the engines. So it would take a lot of man hours to figure out how to balance all 30 or so engines, and then more hours and equipment costs to make them flight ready.
Rather, punch a couple of holes in the fuel lines and sell them to afganistan >:)
They might have to write zero code, but they then have to fuss about integrating code they havent written into their code, and looking through code that you didnt write yourself is a bitch:)
One thing to keep in mind when rating programer productivity is Ease of Use & Understanding.
If i can write a function in 100 lines and make it self explanitory, it would be worth the time to do so, so that a year from now a programmer can come in and modify it to relfect the changes in the corporate software.
This is a much better approach then trying to write the same function in 20 lines of code, but making it so cryptic it takes a trip to langley to decode. (and dont mention anything about "job security", because in a year you wont understand it either....:) )
Another method of good coding is reusability.
if i can reuse some code, then by all means do so. otherwise make methods you write reusable so that others can improve their productivity.
The laser thingy doesnt really impress me. I want to see something like they had in final fantasy the movie.
Think about it, wearing a lcd display over one eye, and the real worl info being piped to that display could be augmented by a computer. (see previous article Augmented reality).
Instead of removing adds, why not make it display a virtual keyboard, and have some AI check wether the fingers pressed a virtual key?
If sirrus is really worried about the "small" gap of 55Mhz interfering with their broadcast, then there are other things for them to do. Since sirrus is a broadcaster, why not invest in a little time and equipment, and then HEY, you could broadcast to all the wireless lans out there with a simple firmware update to recieve it properly. money making oppurtunity (yes, i reach XXXXXXXX # of users (nm that only 5 of those actually listen to it;))). Cmon honestly, this is digital communication, we can encode bits so many ways that theres room enough for the bandwagon plus some. Stop complaining and look for a profit by adapting 802.11b.
DigitalConsumer.org needs some sort of donation program or something. Hollywood needs to be fought with money, and not just words. we need cable advertisements, news advertisements, movie preview ads?;)
Hollywood can reach many millions of people, we need that ability too.
I dont want to look forward to a tommorow when i cant build a athalon 7 system because by then hollywood had mandated to congress that even the processor should enforce DRM
(yeah, i know thats impossible anyway, but read the analogy)
Youre totally right of course :)
Serious implications aside, thats hilarious.

All in all, witty or not, i think its pointless to respond to spam. Contact AntiSpam agencies and the spammers ISP instead.
Found that other "virtual Keyboard" http://www.senseboard.com/
So what happens when you lose your GPS unit?
no TV or GPS (and you cant find your stereo remote or your liveDrive remote or your car keys....)
Muwahhahahaha

What would we do without it?

Win $10k in court, send another email with a autorespond virus in it to some more helpless M$ customers.
