I'm not a programmer but I have worked from for the past 4 years and so does my whole team. My company, a HUGE software giant (no, not MS or IBM), have had very good experience with work at home and support it 100%. After doing it for 4 years, there is no way I'd go back to working in an office. Nothing beats sitting out by the pool with my wireless laptop and something cold to drink and yes, I live in Florida so I can do it most of the year.
Not to mention that what Verizon wants to do, would be illegal in Norway just like most of US marketing would, I haven't seen many TV commercials here in the US that would have been legal in Norway. Not to mention that companies like WalMart could not function well due to the laws of Norway that prohibits them from doing what they do here in the US to their employees.
Norway (and most other European countries) are far more 1st world than USA is. This country is slowly sliding towards becoming a 3rd world society with a 1st world economy and military. Most laws in this country is not protecting people but corporations.

Google's Evil NDA

· Score: 3, Interesting
Well, it's a good reason for never applying for a job with Google. I would have, upon being presented with such an NDA, left with a really loud laughter.
If you sign such slave agreement, you are just too stupid. Don't apply for a job with me afterwards or I'll laugh even harder at you.
Unfortunately, the rest of the world disagrees with you.
USA is spending TWICE as much per capita as countries with health care and still can not provide health care for every citizen.
There is nothing wrong with national health care for everyone, just with the US system. It's a sad proof of failure when you spend more and get much less, even compared to countries with higher cost than USA.
There is not a week going by without me getting an issue from one of out regular analysts with question about how the customer can salvage their data because they don't have a backup. My standard answer is that we may be able to save some data, but it's going to cost a lot of $$$. And I also say: "When you don't have a backup, you have either deemed that you can easily recreate the data or that they are not important for the company"
And these are not mom&pop companies but big multi million/billion dollar companies.
Yeah, let the all the great and good and decent companies produce whatever they want no matter how harmful it is. I guess you have to be American to understand that logic, but you are so used to getting ass raped by private companies that it probably feels natural for you.
Indeed... The US has become a 1st world economy/military with a 3rd world society. I've lived and worked here for a decade and it's getting worse by the day.
Look at all stats too, USA is sliding down the lists so fast you wonder what happened. USA has been surpassed in most areas by countries who care about it's citizens and it's businesses. But Americans continue to claim to be #1 even when all stats show otherwise. It must be nice to be so brainwashed and ignorant.
These actions would have been illegal were I come from, the company charged and prosecuted, the news media would have a field day and people would not shop there anymore.
This is the result of unadulterated capitalism without limitations. The responsible in the company would have had to spend a few years behind bars, the company would have been heavily fined and the layoffs reverted.
Ok, so, in New York, I can get a 1Gb connection for $10/month then? I mean, the population density in New York is far greater than most places in the 1st world. This should, by your account, be the best connected, highest speed and lowest cost, right?
Stop using rural USA as an excuse when the wast majority of people are not living there. It's a lame argument, because you have some extremely densely populated areas which are so technology challenged that it is comparable to a 3rd world country and yes, I live in USA.
Come back and tell me when I can get a 1GB connection for $10/month in the biggest US cities and we'll talk.
1. We are not talking about single machines
2. We are talking about a grid of servers, all accessing a single database instance.
3. If one server goes down, the other servers continue to work.
Is it too much to ask for, that at least you have a clue what is meant?
Well, I do not work for Microsoft, but I came here on an L-1 visa and I'm now on H1-B until my Green Card arrives. Been waiting 4 years on it.
But, not a single time in the 10 years I have worked here, have I been force to, nor expected to, work more than 8 hours. I would never take a job that requires you to work more as it is a symptom of a mismanaged company and as such, should be avoided at all cost.
What about those who did not complain and never explained anything to their kids and which could lead to some snotty kid, firing up the family car and wrecking havoc. Happened before and will happen again.
And it's obvious from your comment that you are NOT a parent, your probably have not even gotten laid yet. Kids are good at mimicking and they do NOT have the ability to understand the consequences of what they are doing,
The commercial should never have been aired in the first place, it shows so much bad judgment that it is sickening.
I'll take 2 tickets!
Can I pay with the AmEx card i got from a russian I met online?

If he BCC'ed I have a feeling it was overlooked, yes....
This is /.... When you ask to be modded down, you get modded up. Maybe the mods think you need some mental health care?

I am not surprised.

Maybe, but according to the article, he has had sex at least two times more than you have.

Nope... USA has become a 1st class banana republic.
USA has become a fucking banana republic. It's no longer a 1st world country.
You must be American...
Only an American is stupid enough to say what you did.
This time it was actually funny...

The slogan "Land of the free" leaves me with a bitter aftertaste.
Kids, repeat after me: "We love proxies!"
Of course they do!
Their boxes are twice the prize of anyone else, how can they not make money?

I'm looking forward to Clippy and "Where do you want to attack today?"
Not sure how to launch the latest megaton H-bomb? Let Clippy guide you...
