    It works like a charm...I am even able to connect my HP48GX to my Garmin GPS II+ (with other software of course)...:-)

    It's "Offene Quelle Programme" which sounds not
    very good to native german speakers...as my english does for you.

    So, we use OSS or Open Source.

    I just checked the web about the "SAMBA". I've never heard about...They seem to be marketleader,
    in this very small market.

    But it's annoying to see, what they are doing.

    Just boot from CD 2 and you get Yast1 and you don't have to use Yast2....

    Don't know about 7.0 but it's the way to go in
    6.3 and 6.4.

    It's all about choice..:-)

    Don't know if leo.org is right with it's translation...Of course "slashdotish" is not my native language, as you could have seen from my post.
    The 98% are just what I regocnize, when I look around here in Germany. And of course has everyone on slashdot tonns of secret M$ Paper laying around. So please stop shouting or smoke something different.

    I'm sorry but you are plain wrong. Their market share is about 98% on the Desktop...Don't know exactly about the server, but until a few months I worked at a very big Corporation, over 10.000 Desktops...all NT 4.0 and all the servers (quite a lot) where NT server blah,blah...
    I'm quite happy to have a Linux-admin job now and a nice new AMD K7 (750 MHz) runing SuSE 6.4 is sitting under my desk...No Windows Server...Just the user have Windoze on their desk...so I have to tweek a little bit with samba around.
    But it was not so easy finding a company using Linux-server only...:-). I could have gotten many Windoze jobs, but I reject to use this crap any longer...
    Maybe, I read slashdot to often....

    The original intent of SA was to prevent the Soviets from placing GPS receivers on their nukes, and using it as cheap, foolproof guidance.

    That's not correct! Public GPS receivers will only work up to 990 Km/h, like my Garmin GPS II+, just to slow for a nuke!!!

    If someone wants to really get some knowledge about SA and it's current status, take a

    You can get a very good one if you take one of the Nikon coolpix models.

    When money is not a question, you should although take a look at the Nikon D1, it makes amazing pictures and you can use all your old "mirror-reflex" Nikon compatible stuff.

    But remember not to be to far away from the batt-charger...:-)

    I read really much posts of this news. But I'am starting to wonder if something is wrong....
    I read plenty of stuff about the win32 or mac version...???

    But I (with a meterd slow modem connection) want to know about the Linux version???

    Is it worth the download??

    What about it's memory/CPU cycles needs?
    What about rendering big tabels (aka slashdot)?

    First I thought it's a hoax, but their story about CDs exploding in the player seems to be another one.

    They "even" provide an email ( DVD-Video@ct.heise.de ) for you, if you have DVDs with those messages....

    They also have a solution for easier detection....
    just put something big/black min. DIN A3 with white point on it beside your TV and concentrate!

    Really funny stuff....

    But I don't understand the article:

    and below: "Although Klaus is not ready to take to the public highway,..."

    But it's strongly recommended to drive on the highway during your driving test...in Germany.
    You have to drive about 45 min. On all kinds of streets!!! I can't imagine that this roboter took the driving test...

    I asume that the article on yahoo is crap...

    From what I read so far, I don't think so.

    The company I work at has many of them.
    All are normal "buyable" cars, only their engine is different.

    Sure, they are very expensive. But driving is fun,
    just be careful about the walking people, they don't hear the car...

    OK, the range is small 70-120 Km and they don't go faster then 120 Km/h. But driving is the same as in just any other car.

    exhibition hall, I would have checked it out for you,...sad

    But it was refreshing to see linux runing on the desktop at soundblaster, hauppauge and many others, even if I had to tell the guy at soundblaster to run xmms with visual plugin to show something impressive on the screen (he wanted). To blame them: It wasn't installed on the PC, running S.u.S.E 6.3.

    I saw Linux powerd 604e PowerPC you could get in 19" racks.

    I saw a nice satelitte card data & TV, they are working on, data going both ways, developing a Linux solution and have a really fancy trick to get the picture on the screen without pushing it through some form of Bus.

    Was a really great day, but I'm tired....

    www.bundeswehr.de is running Apache/1.2.6 Ben-SSL/1.17 PHP/FI-2.0 on Linux

    www.bundesregierung.de is running Apache/1.2.5 on Solaris

    This are the most valuable gov sites in Germany!
    According to www.netcraft.com they are not using Windows. But you are right that on the desktop, Windows is used up to 99%.

    I had the same problem with Crashicator but I tried NSS 1.6 - Netscape Startup Script - Wrapper for Netscape.

    It's on freshmeat and Communicator 4.7 seems to run very good/stable with it.
    Haven't had one crash since I use it!

    Perhaps you should try it, until Mozilla is ready.
    Hadn't much luck with Mozilla until now...

    Your tarnslation is OK. I read the articel on www.heise.de.

    Cactus Data Shield is the name of the system in german as in other languages!
    But, in trade/selling means the same in german, until no one buys it then you should better claim to "try selling it"....

    By the way heise produces the only two computer related magazines in Germany that are
    worth a read.

    ct tries in there own lab to test if the data could be recorded using a CD-Player with an optical externel output jack,

    They will provide soon some info, if it's working
    or not.

    And there are no more CDs coming to trade with the system until they solved some not announced copy problem, so it shouldn't be to hard.

    This is some of very worth things I have read here in the last few week and it's a shame that it's orginatet from the country I live....

    If you had lived the most time of your life in a country with no speed limits on major highways.

    You would known that there are no more accidents due to the speed.

    You can only drive at high speed when the traffic allows you! But then it's nice to drive 110 mp/h or even 160 mp/h, when your car can do it!

    There should be no problem with your speed when you take a little care with:
    Weather, traffic and your car

    P.S. I don't want the government take us that right, because almost anything is regulatet and often forbidden in this country...

    Don't know why this was rated so high.
    Your're right with most of your points.

    But it would have been no problem and there would
    have been no power outages due to a few power plants in Austria not working. Because there is a power grid at 380 KV, which is connecting europe together. And delivering electric power to the point where it's needed is no problem. It has been done for many Years...

    Some days ago I got mail from lego, I asked if it's possible to get the RCX 1.5 Software & Constructopedia in german.

    I own the RCX 1.0 and would like to have the Software/Hanbook in my native language, then my son could use it better.
    I try to get him in programming, but I don't know if NQC is the way to go. It's possible to get the Software, a bit expensive I think...

    I asked in my mail for Linux support for the RCX!
    Lego answered:
    That they know and like NQC but there is no plan for getting there software running under Linux. They hope for a GPL version that alows GUI programming, soon available for the RCX.

    Does anybody know how good the support for projects like NQC from LEGO really is?
