If I buy a DSL 6000 line with a flat-rate, I expect to get it. Period. No, I don't care for any "up to" clauses or "extreme traffic capping". People are expecting to get those 6000 kb/s and no limitations, they know it, and they specifically use that expectation to get you as a client. It's a scam, and they know it. Period.
The nice thing is, that now, you can end the contract, because they changed the terms. They can't simply change things afterwards, without you accepting them.
I know from internal sources*, that at the beginning to middle of the decade, Jubii was so successful in Denmark, that they were able to put the following rule on the providers: Either you give us money, or your users won't be able to access our site.
Of course this was not strictly caused by the providers, but it was certainly not neutral. ___ * I don't think that it was ever a secret. (For obvious reasons.)
Well, I might sound evil, but don't hate the messenger: It actually is quite possible, in terms of natural selection, that in the long run, this would mean a more successful nation. Because only those who are successful, would survive. The first problem is, that money is not exactly what should be our scale to measure success and worth to survive. We can do better than that. And the second point is, that it would of course be even *more* successful, to pull them *all* up. But is that possible? The only thing that certainly is not doing a nation any good, is the current state.
My personal opinion is, that this is intentional, because 1. our government is not *that* dumb, and 2. look at who profits from this most. As I said: Personal opinion.
The USA really has giant contrast, that most people seem to forget about all too often. I mean there is Manhattan, there is some farm in the worst backwater hole, there is the nearly empty part, rotting of Detroit, there is Alaska which is mainly just forests, There are cities which still look like the hurricane that went trough them two years ago just happened yesterday, etc, etc. And most of it seems to be not shiny at all. It's really sad sometimes, to see the nation rotting away. And I'm not even from the same continent! Reminds me of the Russian backwaters and rusting military too.
I hope that something great emerges out of it... Because that is usually the case with humans...
Well, imagine having bone marrow replaced, and you maybe got blood from someone else in your body. They you could have 3 different genetic codes in your body at the same time! What then?
Imagine one being male black, one being white female, and one being a Latino-Chinese hermaphrodite. Now imagine the real you being the latter one of those.;)
First of all, that company is dead and gone, because they did what they did. So yeah, very wise of them... ^^
Second, it's not the page views. It's the clicks on ads that are worth money. Page views *cost* money! My former employer wanted money. Not page views per se.
Third, making stuff run in IE took so much time, that by stopping to do it, we would actually have made money!
Fourth, I left the company to found my own, because I found them to be literally to fuckin' stupid to understand the Internet. Hell, the boss of content used AOL to surf the web! And their "design" team simply tried to clone Apple, every time they came up with "something new". I mean, when I started there, the local "development team" rejected my recommendation to make a library out of the design (HTML tables snippets back then) so we could quickly update it, because, and I quote "Functions are too complicated."... Yes, they meant the concept of calling functions in a server-side language like PHP! I'm not kidding!
Nobody is against the *development* of Theora. We all wish it would beat H.264. And you know it. So your statement is intentionally twisting things to make an argument where none is.
It's that *right now* there is no point in *using* Theora. If you got 100 movies in H.264 on your hard disk, and watch YouTube with that format, you aren't caring about the legality of the possible chance that someone who has a big interest in their format becoming the most used suing its users when that format is used on another website.:)
They're both NOT OK. At least by law in civilized countries. Here you have to ask before taking a picture of someone. At least when it's not clearly visible.
That's why there are those "warning camera" signs. That's why it's not allowed in court without permission. That's why you ask someone in an interview if you can record the audio, before actually doing so.
You always have a right to your own body. Your statement is deliberately false and borders to criminality.
Well, in civilized countries, you have to ask people for permission, before recording anything of them. Audio, video, pictures, etc. Which is usually not a problem. You nicely ask, and they're OK with it. The point is that you have to ask.
It's an extension of the basic right to have control over your own body.
This is also, why such material is not allowed in court when there was no permission.
No. It's because it is one time frame standing there forever.
Imagine they make a photo just in that moment where you look stupidest or are jacking off and you can see it trough the window... or BOTH... with a child coming around the corner *just* at that moment.
Now usually, it's forgotten quickly, so it's a bit of shame maybe, and you're good again.
But on the net, it stays there forever. This blocks the natural mechanism of forgiveness of the human society. Every time someone looks at the picture, it's fresh again. Until they are used to it and think it's always that way. Which of course it is not.
That's the problem here. Like an elephant in the room. So stop distracting from it. (I know you were not doing it intentionally, but I hope I could point you to pointing at the elephant again.:)
Sorry, but your attitude personally offends me very much.
I had to stand emotional pain on a level that made me think it's all just a big experiment by aliens to test me, so I could stand it and survive. If you're hurt physically, everybody sees it, and they will drive you to a hospital and shit. And I did not get beaten up ever.
But if you're hurt emotionally, not only are you totally ignored. They think that when they see nothing, nothing happened. And when you actually notice yourself, how wrong this all is, you are being laughed at and called a whiner. Or they play it down. Also the whole society acts as if it's not "cool" to deal with your emotions in any way. Especially as a man. Your view is a perfect example of that totally wrong old and ignorant view.
I nearly died from it, more than once. I still have nightmares at day and at night from it.
So take back your statement *right now*! Understood?
I know a bit about these things, and I can tell you that it always pops out somewhere.
They will always be so "cool" because they vent it at something that you don't notice.
And before you know it, you have to visit your friend at the hospital, because he literally destroyed his asshole and some other stuff, because he was a extreme closet-masochist. Good luck helping your friendship over *that* awkward situation!:P
No, those work at the wrong place. The ones you'd need are the substances is the most hard drugs (which are also in most hard pain killers, with just one molecule changed a tiny bit).
Unfortunately they are both addictive as hell, and will make your life even worse.;)
I wonder though, why nobody invented the inverse drug. Something that makes you feel like crap, but if you stop taking it, you will feel really really good, and with some time, you will have "irreparable damage" with being unable to feel very bad anymore.
This is well-known for a long time by psychologists and neurologists!
The pain center in your brain is activated in the same way for physical and psychological pain.
But of course, some assholes still want to claim, that it were "just words" and it did "not really" hurt.
I know from personal experience, that someone can hurt you more this way, than he could ever do with physical torturing. Your body can mostly heal, and we have all that medicine, and hospitals and all. But when someone "beats up your soul", you will have a hard time making people even believe that it's abuse, much less actually prove it.
One example is when person one says the most evil, painful, hurting words someone could ever say. And person two reacts with the exact same brutality, but physical. Then person two will go to jail, and be called evil, while nothing will happen to person one. They will argue that person one just said something. And that *can't be bad* and *can't be a reason to beat someone up.
Luckily, in my family, nobody did ever beat anybody up physically. Unluckily, it was all psychology, and my mother was a freaking genius at it. Targeted at your heart with surgical precision. Good luck explaining to strangers, why this makes you angry. They won't see or understand it.
I wish we would finally give just as much "credit" to mental abuse, and find ways to prove it and put those people into jail too.
Think about how much mobbing would then "turn into" the actual crime that it really is.
Sorry, I once worked on a site, where we got 16 million visits *a day*! And that's only for the top country.
And your attitude is the very reason we are in this situation. You always cave in, when you fear you could lose some users. It's so pathetic.
No, don't make links non-underlined! We will lose users! No, don't stop supporting that browser! We will lose users! No, don't change the design! We will lose users! etc, etc, etc.
It's the knock-out argument for all change.
And while others innovate, you keep running behind them, always trying to catch up. While your user base turns into the most stubborn, spoiled and dumb that is possible. They will totally dominate you instead of you dominating them.
If you ever read something about leadership, you will understand, that you can only lead, if you do what *you* want, and stand behind that, not caring what the mob/crowd thinks. Because they will *want* to follow you, if you are a role model, *knowing* what is right. Of course this won't give you *all* users. Because when you're greedy and want them all, it's pretty much guaranteed that you will be left with even less than if you would have just let those follow you, that want you for what you are.
Yes, it's the same thing as in love and friendship relationships.
And as always, this time it's the leaders again, who will drop support for the IE first. Those sites, where people don't go because the sites are trying to do it right for everybody, but because they're so cool and worth so much to them, that people will do anything to still be able to use their site. And soon you will follow them. When you notice that half your user base is already lost to them.
Well, in such a game, long-term balance is the absolute king. Because it is literally equal to the fun that players will have. Which then is equal to the number of active players, positive word-of-mouth and test accounts being made into real accounts.
If there's one rule for such projects, it's that you must maintain a good game balance at all cost, all the time.
CCP did it in a pretty proper way. Which is really hard work. I would have done it a bit earlier if in any way possible, and I have a feeling, that they would have too, if they could. Don't forget, that there could have been a way, to make them normal players again. Which would have been the better way.
If I buy a DSL 6000 line with a flat-rate, I expect to get it. Period. No, I don't care for any "up to" clauses or "extreme traffic capping". So goodbye UPC. See you in bankruptcy.

Well, they should be afraid. Because I'm going to kick their asses for their ignorance!
(*blend to underwater lair under a volcano*)
Release the sha... what?... OK, the sea bass...
MUHAHAHAAAA
No, you misread that. It's lower than expected now. But still too hot.
Wait until it's not lower than expected anymore. Then it will be too hot to even call it too hot.
Have fun roasting in denial!
*Finally* a *sane* person. Thank you for using proper logic. It's a rare sight nowadays, but it's nice to see.
I second your statements.

I'd ask Rothschild's successors themselves. Which unfortunately only works when you're one of them. But hey, others got there too, and so can you.
Here's something to brighten up the day:

This instantly reminded me of a roundabout, which also helps with congestion and crashes.
Which makes it obvious where to place such poles.
And where to put some girls on them. :P

I was the stunt double for ALL episodes of Happy Tree Friends!
And I still miss Giggles.
Beat THAT!
Hmm... wanna know what they say in the pickup community about this?
It's called "one-itis". And the only cure is FTOG (Fuck Ten Other Girls).
But those asses actually *get* to FTOG, so it works for them. ;)
