I really think they wanted to establish a new concept: That the TARDIS regenerates itself from whatever design there is around it. But I think it would make more sense, if the Doctor could change it at will, just like the outside.
But my guess is just a lack of fantasy.
The same problem that makes extraterrestrials humans with some rubber parts on their heads, or giant human body parts / earth animal combinations, etc.
In other words: Things that are not alien in even a single part.
Which is why I strongly preferred the non-human-looking aliens in Babylon 5 to those in Star Trek. Like the Vorlons, the Shadows or the great old ones. There should be living space ships that eat careless ambassadors who come to close in every sci-fi show. ^^
Sorry, but your opinion is in my eyes bullshit. I think the current series is really great Sure, it’s not on the story complexity level of Revolver or the wow effect of Fight Club, or the thrills of Matrix... But I don’t expect that from a weekly TV show.
And no, you don’t know more about good stories than I do, because I learned what makes a story good because of my job. (Of course I also don’t consider you bad. Because I don’t know you.)
By the way: Wannabe experts always thump that the story is so important. But in reality, the story is only one aspect. It is really the whole experience. A rollercoaster ride has no story at all, but is still a lot of fun. So the aesthetics (including sound, behavior, everything that is styleable) are an important part. And the technique/technology too. In full games there also is gameplay as a fourth part.
Those parts strengthen each other. So even the charm of a character can be an essential part of what makes a whole show great. Plus, it is very important to note, that every story has two parts: The part that Spok would enjoy. And the part that Troi would enjoy. A movie can have a complex emotional story, that us logic-loving male geeks would not even see as a story at all. Nonetheless it is just as important.
Ok, maybe that helped you get some perspective. If not, please enjoy life anyway, OK? You only have one! ^^
Seriously. Been there, done that.* Years ago. All phones. Plus PCs (Linux,BSD,Mac,Windows, etc). Plus many PDAs. Plus settop devices. Plus a microwave. Plus some cars. Without a single change in the code base. And for most of them not even a recompilation.
Java works as advertised... if you do it properly.
(Yes, of course compatibility goes out the window, as soon as you start depending on proprietary libraries which are only available for some phones. But if you want it to run everywhere: Don’t do that!! Simple. And if you really want the features, just do a check, and only load those parts, if the feature is actually available. Also simple.)
* Except for the iPhone of course, because it’s the only phone without Java, because Jobs is an arrogant totalitarian dick.
Wait, that can’t be... Let’s translate that to a unit that real humans use: 47 “MiB” = 47 MB. Aah, now I understand how much that is. Huh? 47 MB? You mean not swapped memory on a system with a full RAM, and not counting all the core libs, right?
Wow, for a Gecko-based (actually xulrunner-based!) program, that’s very little.
So it’s basically Amarok, in slow, with an inexplicably low memory usage...
The last time I tried songbird, it was horribly slow, had a really badly designed interface (more “stylishness”, lest “actually usable”ness), and was just all around crappy.
Lockhart, famous for his critique on “mathematics” “A Mathematician’s lament” is currently writing a book, to teach math the way it’s supposed to be taught. I decided to wait for it, since all the other stuff on the market is the same retarded backwards-“teaching” shit, with the same stupid “learning rules by heart”.
Prosecutors said that excluding Pfizer would most likely lead to Pfizer's collapse, with collateral consequences: disrupting the flow of Pfizer products to Medicare and Medicaid recipients, causing the loss of jobs including those of Pfizer employees who were not involved in the fraud, and causing significant losses for Pfizer shareholders
Any other company would fill that space in an instant. As there are many competitors, and they would buy Pfizer out. And need new employees to handle the new bigger workload.
Also, a collapse of a evil company is a GOOD thing! It is an essential part of a free market. Also, 90% of the products that Pfizer, Eli Lily & co sell, aren’t needed at all, since they are only symptom suppressors, taken with total ignorance of the actual causes of the diseases, that will only make people think they are healthy, as long as they continue taking the stuff. Fix the cause, and you’re done! But hey, your physician will not even understand what you mean, when you talk about actual causes nowadays. I noticed this with every doc in the last 5 years. I deliberately demand that they find and prove the cause. They look at me with a blank stare, as if I had said something that made no sense. Or they name a symptom, like a organ problem. Idiots. That’s why I stopped going to docs, except for tests or prescriptions which I make them do, by telling them something that forces them do do that.
By the way: 90%+ of your diseases go away, when you walk for an hour a day, go to bed in the evening and wake up with the sun, and stop eating a one-sided diet (e.g. lots of sugars) or defective (heated/processed to destruction) proteins/vitamins, and process your suppressed horrors by facing them. The rest is genetic, environmental toxins, and injuries. Done. It’s that easy.
...to stick a little bit of completely unrelated paid viral marketing right in front of the “article”.
With the iPad arriving on the scene,
If you paid twice the price of the same thing from an other manufacturer, now you know where that money went. ^^
One could even make a meme out of it, since it really fits anything:
With the iPad arriving on the scene, the Haiti earthquake victims were all saved! With the iPad arriving on the scene, war in Iraq ended and peace broke out! With the iPad arriving on the scene, 351 people died in the latest terror attack! With the iPad arriving on the scene, the Teabaggers finally managed to overturn the government and proclaim a theocracy! With the iPad arriving on the scene, fanbois around the world came for a week straight....
In an around Germany it’s also not an unusual thing to do. There are guide books, and in the right time of the year you just have to walk trough the forest, and find the eatable ones. And man, there are great ones, that you will never find in your supermarket.
The only problem is, that nowadays they are full of environmental toxins, which they naturally concentrate. And because of Chernobyl’s radioactive rain back then, we were told not to eat them, since they were highly radioactive. (Which should still be the case. Dunno. People eat them again.)
Well, we built large tree fortresses as children. 3 levels, shooting tower, transparent roof, electricity, radio, shooting slots, a moat with wooden spikes it it, and an electric fence with contact alarm. And I can tell you, that a simple moat out of a plastic pond foil, with an electric fence in it, is usually enough to keep anyone but the cops away. ^^ (Beware of anything that could be used as a bridge. Cut down trees around it if possible, or make the fence go up out of the water for 1-2m.)
But if you accidentally kill a neighbor’s child, that’s your problem.;)
and yet maybe if you had a clue about where he was coming from you'd know it was the same math community that fucked him over that you suggest giving blindly too[sic]
Well, he got a million dollars (plus most likely a lot more), and yet he doesn’t do a single thing to change that what he hates so much? Sorry, but when you are so rigid that you harm the very principles that you wanted to protect with that behavior in the first time, then you have definitely gone too far, into mental problem land. The land where you stopped thinking why you are doing all this in the first place, but still blindly follow the old imperfect rules based on it, when when they contradict the original intention.
Like some government drone executing the “rules/laws”, even when that means doing the opposite of what they were created for. It’s something that someone from the TSA would do.
Of course this all assumes that hating that math community actually is his motivation. Which is not at all clear, until you ask him and he gives you an answer. But every time I enter #math, I can completely understand Perelman. I don’t even know if these are humans I’m talking to in there, because their way of thinking is completely insane, and any common sense of what I could mean, is banned in there, it seems.:/ (I’ll just have to wait for Lockhart’s book. [Nice guy, btw.])
I think if you would go up to him, not as a reporter, but as a friend, bring something nice to drink and eat, just to have a chat about a bit of philosophy, then he’d do it Of course for that to work, the reporters have to leave him alone for a bit of time.
Can we get the main characters modeled after the Top Gear crew (the cars should fit the show too!), and have The Doctor somewhere in there? I’d play that! Having the Monty Pythons in there would be icing on the cake. ^^
Imagine you live in a flat, and go to eat in the local restaurant, where you can get spam, spam spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans and spam. Then some weird weird guy at the ministry of silly walks gives you a job where you you have to buy a “British Beetle” at “Clarkson’s Cars o’ Crap”, and chase down a group of weird chanting Vikings, just to find out that they have actually captured The Doctor and his police box and plan on going pillaging trough time.
You’re forgetting that there are a bazillion Asiatic companies, who will sell you a Beowulf cluster of 10 equivalent hardware products for the same price. Or one for 10% of the price, including a shiny Linux distribution. They won’t go away. And people most people won’t have the money to buy Apple products anyway. The only question is, where MS will fit in there... if at all. ^^
At least, sometimes, Apple creates a better illusion of offering something new and competitive.
There, fixed that for you. ^^
iPhone -> Midrange phone with little functionality and touch screen (was already done by many other companies [e.g. japanese] before them. (Seen as a gift from god in the extremely deprived US market.) iPod -> Just a plain and simple MP3 player. Even el-cheapo companies from Taiwan did it years before them. The Mac -> Just an expensive PC. iPad -> Yet another try at the “tablet”, that nobody wanted, the last dozen times other companies tried the same.
Their marketing is beyond excellent (Especially the viral one with all the delusional fanbois doing the work for free. [Watch them doing it to this comment too.]). But their products are not at all new, and with those prices not competitive anyway.
It’s much more general. Any company, that has the sole goal to make money (always with nobody asking why), will have exactly those priorities. The problem is, that when there is competition, in our “society”, the one with the least scruple, is the one “winning”. (And then destroying itself with the exact same tactic; making place for the next one.)
American “ethics“ is hugely hypocritical. And in fact the most horrible thing, is that people (like you) really believe that it’s not cultural but global, because they heard and parroted it in a “giant monkey, see monkey do”, without thinking about it for themselves for even a microsecond!
Everything is cultural. Fraud. Theft. Murder. Rape. Eating babies! Everything! You can find a time for each and every thing that you hold true, where the opposite was seen as globally true, just as you see your view as global today.
An example: Let’s say someone creates a country on an island, where everybody going there, agrees that it is OK, to murder whoever you want. So what? They all agreed. It’s their thing. Nothing wrong with that. What’s wrong is you imposing your beliefs upon others! Hell, what you call “war”, is exactly that: If they are “soldiers” then suddenly it is seen as cool and brave to kill “enemy” “soldiers”.
What doesn’t work, is people with different beliefs having contact in areas that are ruled by those beliefs. This is the key point. If someone doesn’t agree with your beliefs, and you force him anyway, that is the wrongdoing right there! And that’s exactly what you are doing by acting as if your personal set of rules would be true everywhere.
I’m sorry, but mass behavior proves that 99.999% of the population have never ever developed their own ethics or sense of reality. They simply imitate that of others (“leaders“), parroting it in a giant brainless “monkey see, monkey do”, but still think it’s their own. Only a tiny subset has ever pondered the core question themselves and built their own feeling for right and wrong.
Hell, one single word would prove that pretty much all people’s ethics have nothing to do with reality: NIPPLEGATE!
Look at Apple, if you want to see the real kings of this viral marketing techniques!
I swear that there was not a single day since months, where there wasn’t some “article” that conveniently contained some Apple product name. Even for simple things like “listening to your mp3 player” which becomes “listening to your iPod”, etc. I know, because a spam filter in my RSS reader filters them out and shows me statistics about it.
I mean making people think the iPhone would even be relevant on the global market, let alone dominant, is an impressive feat. Making people also think that is because of its technological “superiority”, is marketing genius work!
I really think they wanted to establish a new concept: That the TARDIS regenerates itself from whatever design there is around it. But I think it would make more sense, if the Doctor could change it at will, just like the outside.

I’m sorry, but every second girl in the club where I was yesterday night, was hotter than her. Especially the girls that I talked to.
Yes, yes, here is my geek card! Take it. ;)

How about t..its! :D

Or did an idiot get mod points? ;)
