Well, the simple problem is, that depending on what you accept, it’s ether already 100% clear, or not at all.
If you only look at the photons, it’s 100% clear, that they are waaaayy to weak to get any electrons to do anything. At maximum you will get 0.1-0.2 degrees of temperature raise. Which is nothing compared to sunlight or a warm shower.
But the problem is, that people say that there are other effects. No idea what else they could mean, since there is not really anything else (van der Waals?). But as long as it’s not proven that there is nothing else, or that those other effects don’t do anything, the debate will not be done for non-quantum-physicists.
Of course the loonies will never stop. By definition. But who cares?
Uuum, Microsoft was always really good at making things look good. The problem is: That’s about it. ^^ They are basically a marketing company with a attached software/hardware division.
So no wonder you like it. Because that exactly what Apple is.;)
Just add something to it, that does not directly link into GPL code (and therefore can be closed-source), but that everybody will use and expect from then on. Then everyone who does not offer that function, will be left out in the cold, and called “incompatible” (Which of course is the wrong way around and totally unfair.)
You are not quite right here. As Java apps often are not labeled as Java. It’s just expected to work. Since at least 95% of the market can do Java. Even crappy old phones.
I guess I thought about the global market share of the phones. And you thought about the app count of the US market. Which of course are completely different things.:)
Uuum, you don’t need to explain J2ME to me, as I am a J2ME developer and make a living with it.:) I”m just saying Java, because it’s obvious that it’s J2ME.:) About “write once, run everywhere”: Well, of course the main API is pretty basic. But for extended APIs you just add a check in the code, and you’re good. (If the API is not there, that functionality can not be used anyway.) If you just use the base APIs, it really runs everywhere. It’s a hardware thing, and is not a fault of Java. And that is impossible to avoid. You can’t even use software implementations because of the speed limitations, and because the hardware is usually not there anyway. So: It’s really: Write once, run everywhere, where the needed functions are available. Obvious.:)
I could just as well say: C++ is a joke, since when you recompile a C++ app on a computer without a sound card, you won’t get any sound from that app.;)
But it’s not real Java. It’s some messed-up version from Google. So the whole advantage of running pretty much every cell phone app out there (which are nearly all Java apps) is gone.
If you’re too fat, too dumb, too ugly, etc, then making your life easier, is unfair for everybody else. Fair is, to treat everybody the same. Which means no special seats for fat people.
I’m also quite round. But I don’t expect the government to make up a law to force women to find that attractive. I just have to either lose weight, or work harder. That’s fair for all those who already worked harder, to not become fat.
Besides: Other than someone who is born with half a brain, looking like Quasimodo (who will really have a hard life), we can always just eat less (and stand the pain of getting used to it). He doesn’t have that choice.
I wonder when “political correct” has become “to discriminate against every healthy successful person”...?
Or eFinity... iTurbo... cyberGold 2000... XFX. ;)
Pff, moderators lost their humor again. Why are people always so angry in here? Lack of titstorms? ;)

So you’re a Linux guy. :)
Just use Gentoo and mask the @kde and @gnome sets and use the console. ;)

I actually say sentences like that pretty often. I would also add “elegance” and “emergence” in there. :)
It’s about the beauty of a software design.
Of course the above comment still uses it an a way that is very wrong. ;)
You forgot the “extend” step.

And when you finally can buy it at the store, it’s another Zune from Microsoft. ;)
Ok, I guess if you ignore the pricing, and deprivation of the target markets.

@Moderators: :)
Uuum, that was no troll. But a serious comment.
Maybe you should read the whole comment, and fix your social conditioning.
Still better than the other way around:
Maggot.
The mobile OS from Yugo. ^^
Interestingly this means that Intel will be sponsoring a mobile Linux distro which will run on ARM.
Embrace: Check.
Extend: Active.
Extinguish: Pending.
...this is the first touchpad I was ever excited about. And the first device since the N900.
Let’s see what it costs, and if you can easily format it and install Linux (including working drivers)...

Didn’t you all swear to boycott Sony, after the rootkit debacle? ;)
The number one thing that I want, is the ability to read/write really fast.
And the other number one thing is: Don’t ever die (or become significantly slower) after less then ten years of usage!
I agree, it’s a bit sexist. Then again, what did you expect from 4Chan?
Don’t worry, we have a “Operation Dickstorm” just for you. ^^
But considering you are female and a geek, I guess you will prefer the titstorm anyway. ;))
I wonder how they plan to stay anonymous in those protests...
Ouch. That sounds really bad/painful.
Can’t hey just use a pressurized aquarium?
This sounds like (by definition unnecessary) torture.
Creationist airplane. Doesn’t believe in gravity. ^^
Bah. Real men fry their brain with not one, but two good old CRTs! At 30 kg a piece! ^^

You mean 99% of the OS X users!
I couldn’t care less.
This is the Internet freedom protection special unit.
