This looks to be way too heavily government funded. As with any government project, they'll get ass-deep, and cut off funding, just like the Aussies did.
That thing is sweeter than my last 2 cars.
Next,
Sony to announce revolutionary new product with 17" screen, DVD, CD-Burner, dual 300W power supply, 80GB hard drive, etc.
Weighing only 36 pounds, this revolutionary...
Oh wait, that's a desktop.
Never mind.
I was just thinking, I need more spyware on my PC. A browser is a great idea. Why doesn't AOL just surf for me. Put out an automated browser, and the sites just come up randomly. That way, I don't have to decide what sites I want to pull up. At every site that comes up, they ask you for Name, Address, Zip Code, Date of Birth, Mother's Maiden Name, SSN, Credit Card number, shoe size, and sexual preference.
...that some of these people haven't downloaded the latest version of the Internet.
I actually went out the other day to buy a new version of the Internet, and the sales guy looked at me like I was stupid.
So I smacked him.
The problem is that as long as Motient owns the networks, the paging capabilities will not advance. Motient has already stated to us, that unless we buy and activate 5000 (YIKES) of their products, they will not put up another tower for us.
As everyone else has stated, KaZaa and Morpheus can't play nice together. I think everyone else is overlooking the fact that somewhere, there is a server that controls login traffic, and THAT is what the courts will nail Morpheus for. KaZaa has nothing to lose, even if it's their server. My $.02
I agree. GPL = no money
You could argue that companies that allow free source code to be compiled take advantage of not having to pay to develop software, but that's a real stretch.
I like this, but at the same time, I don't.
This has great business applications, if they can keep it secure.
Let's say that Company A, who has a 1/2 dozen servers on your network, builds and tests tanks. Big industry, but you can't build tanks just to blow them up or run them into trains. When everyone's at home, Company A can use Company B and C and D's servers to "crash" that tank a few times overnight.
One of my company clients bought a Cray to do crash test simulation at the overwhelming $$$ of 250 MILLION! This box sat 75 miles from their HQ and no one ever saw the damn thing, and never knew if it worked. And the average test took 6 days.
Where was I? Oh yeah.
If they can scale this OS down to an enterprise level, someone's going to make a lot of money.
My $.02
OK, I actually had a RIM 850 for a while (still have it actually, but it's not activated now) and there are a few BIG problems with them:
1) Signal "penetration" - Don't go 6 steps inside a building and expect to carry on a conversation (not that my Sprint POS phone is any better)
2) Frequent crashes - The thing crashed soooo much, you would think it was a M$ product (worked better after I took the slow-a$$ browser off)
3) Range - If you live more than 12 miles from a tower, forget about it, and I'm in a pretty big metro area.
My $.02: A great toy, but don't make it your only cell phone, especially if you travel.
I suggest we get a human body, and create a "Bionic Man." I have this friend named Oscar Goldman, who says he can make him better than he was before. Better. Stronger. Faster.
Oh wait, someone just told me they did this in the 70s. Never mind.
Not bad, 3 anonymous cowards in a row. Yeah, OK, my math is a little shady, but the city I'm referring to is Windsor, which is like Detroit, only with a better casino and strip clubs as far as the eye can see. Not the brightest city in Canada.
As far as the Northern provinces go, they can keep the snow and moose. I'll stay in Crimetown, USA!
Signed,
Dumb American
I live pretty close to the Canadian border, and every time I go over there, I get 150% richer and 200% smarter. Canadians are nice, but you can't play hockey and drink beer your whole life and expect to be smart, too.
But how big is the code? Can it be handled over dialup?
Just another thing to teach my parents how to use. They need a button marked "set time on VCR."
Perhaps you should buy the new Noxzema PDA, to help prevent oily skin buildup on the screen. It's called the Acneo.

Don't steal, the government hates competition.
that you can't yet buy the mobo separately (at least last time I looked at Shuttle's website.)
This would be the ideal mobo for doing some sweet mods.
*LAUGH* I want to build my next PC in a shoebox.
Now I'm gonna have to pay taxes on all my "million-dollar ideas".
Joy.
