Surely somewhere, somehow you know an accountant!? Promise your accountant friend free computer service in exchange for doing your taxes. Works for me.
This article is pure bullcrap. Microsoft, Apple and the RIAA would love for us all to think that MP3s are going out but we're smarter than that, we're Slashdot readers. Microsoft and Apple want everyone use their proprietary formats and the RIAA want people to use anything with DRM. But we'll just happily burn our downloads to CD and the rip those CDs back to MP3s.
The day that the number portability law was passed I called AT&T to see when my contract was up since I have been very dissatisfied with AT&T from day one. When I called I wasn't surprised when they told me there computer were all down. And that they would call me back with an answer. Naturally I never got a call back. So when I called again I was yelled at by a customer service rep, who told me she couldn't transfer me because all the phone lines are down (and what were we just talking on). Anyway the CSR gave me a number to call. When I called this number you get a voice jail system that asks you to say what department you want, you say it and it says "I don't understand" in this pass-aggressive tone, then tells you it transferring and then hangs up on you. I also noticed that the link on the website to the "Contact Us" never seems to load. Hmmm is all this coincidence? I think not.
The head of peer-to-peer (P2P) company Grokster has offered to pay the $2,000 settlement the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has agreed with a 12-year-old girl over her file sharing.
Wayne Rosso, president of P2P software development company Grokster, said he had made the offer because he was "disgusted" by the RIAA's tactics.

The Philly school district is having a crisis trying to find qualifies teachers. The schools have become so desperate that anyone capable of signing their name is qualified be a teacher. A teacher with any talent will quickly leave the Philly district to go out to the 'burbs where they can make way more money and not worry about being shot by some animal. I can't see this school lasting too long if the students use mouse cords to strangle each other and keyboards to whack each other upside the head. Philly school district does not need technology they need that baseball bat wielding principal from that movie. But that's just my $0.02.
Has anyone tried....
An automated attendant something like this:
"By dialing this number your are agreeing to the terms and conidtions of this phone line. Please press one to hear the full terms and conitions. If you agree to these terms, please press two now. If you do not agree to my terms please hang up now." If the caller presses two the phone rings. If they press one they hear an hour long message full of legal mumbo jumbo that forbids unsolicited calls. Would that work? If I implemented something like this would I have recourse to sue telemarketers that press two???Just an idea.
How 'bout boxer shorts and disposable cameras

I used to work for Stitch Networks before the sold out to USA Technology. We used to do other cool stuff too. Like sell Joe Boxer underwear out of talking vending machines. Our most profitable program was selling Kodak disposable cameras out of vending machines at tourist traps... I miss the old days with the e-Vend crew.
"The system, called eSuds and developed by IBM and USA Technologies"
I can tell you for certain that IBM had NOTHING to do with developing this technology. I worked for e-Vend.net which later became Stitch Networks, which was eventually bought out by USA Technologies. They started out in the small little mushroom growing town of Kennett Square it was an incredibly fun job, until our fearless leader ran it into the ground, laid everyone off, before selling out to USA tech. (Thanks Dave.)

Not Canada, I'm running to Germany where the entire government is migrating to SUSE. I think I'll be safer there...
