Most Torque engine games will run on ATI cards using their proprietary drivers. Its the DRI drivers that cause problems (at least for Torque). We haven't had the time/resources to make the DRI drivers work with the engine.
Further on down my wanderings, I bumped into GarageGames.com. They have a kick-ass commercial game which looks a
lot like Mech Warrior, and it runs nicely and natively under Linux. They also demo'd the classic Doom game which
runs under Linspire's Click-And-Run installation.
I was working for Garage Games at this conference.
The large robot game is Dark Horizon's: Lore and it will be
released for linux in a few weeks. It is already available for windows and osx.
We did NOT demo Doom. People were playing that because some of the machines didn't have good enough
3D acceleration (i.e. no nvidia cards) to run the other games.
Deadly plagues and other research requiring isolation could be done easily on our moon with minimal fear of contaminating the earth should their projects go awry.
Not only does the battery only last about 6 hours, but at least on mine, it doesn't give you much warning before it dies.
There is a charge indicator which displays a full charge right up until death. After that, you have to charge it, watch it reboot, reset the date/time if you aren't tired of doing that, then repopulate the playlist. PITA.
Other irritations: The front and (especially) the back of the iPod get scratched. The touch sensitive pad seems too sensitive. The "Brick" game is buggy.
Don't get me wrong, I like my iPod, but contrary to the hype it is by no means a perfect player.
The drivers are great. Thanks, NVIDIA. Now, it would be nice to have:
1) A wizardlike installer that I could recommend to my linux-newbie friends.
2) Bundling the driver with distributions and having it get installed by default.
3) Binary compatibility with the kernel so that I don't need to reinstall the driver when I upgrade the kernel. If that isn't possible, then maybe a method to automagically reinstall the driver when the kernel changes.
Not all of this has to be done by NVIDIA; the slashdot/Open Source community can help out.
Foo. I thought that forum was supposed to be public. Anyway, try renaming/moving the libopenal.so in the "RealmWars" folder so that it isn't loaded. You may also need to rename libopenal.so in/usr/lib and/usr/local/lib
Although the engine has been running on linux for a while, it was considered "alpha". This is the first official release announced by Garage Games. The final will probably be out in a few weeks once all the beta bugs get squashed.

We also showed Think Tanks, Orbz, and Marble Blast. All of these are available for windows, mac and linux, from the Garage Games site.

God, what an awful looking programming language. I'd need to take some valium before trying to write code in that.
Yeah but what happens when the badger decides that _we_ are weeds? Arnold's busy, he won't be able save us.
Is that the IRS DBase that Trinity cracked?
Here's some advice from Dr. Weil on how to beat caffeine. The Q&A Library has lots of other useful info too.
Um, didn't you ever play Doom?

Somebody else was having this problem. Read the thread found here. Also please post any other bugs you have in the forum, as described here.
