I work in higher ed. Three years ago we were cutting to the bone, now it's raining money and we're building like there's no tomorrow. When the loan bubble bursts it's going to be very ugly.
...that it would be adequate to staunch the bleeding, but not enough to jump start a recovery. At the time, the US economy was shedding jobs like crazy, since the stimulus the shedding stopped and there were some modest employment gains. One can argue whether that's due to the stimulus til the cows come home, but it's pretty much what the Krugster predicted.
...when he returned? When they call you "interim", it ain't cause you got a lot of political capital. I recall a lot of skepticism when he first returned, though I'll admit he probably had some leeway because Apple was so desperate. But if he hadn't started hitting home runs right off the bat, he wouldn't have lasted long.
Just about any piece of electronic hardware--including the monitor upon which you're reading this--involves hazardous materials in its manufacturing process. Yes, that means care should be taken. That doesn't make them inherently un-green, it just means their manufacturer was an asshat. And China has loose environmental protections. Color me shocked.
The fact that the regulators didn't do their jobs is not an argument against regulation, it's an argument in favor of transparency and severe punishment for regulators who get in bed with those whom they are supposed to be regulating. Bill Hickock didn't clean up Dodge City by throwing up his hands and saying "Too hell with it, ya'll can just police yourselves!."
but spending a trillion dollars to win a pissing contest while we're cutting Social Security, selling off parks, and laying off tens of thousands of government employees seems, I don't know, kind of stupid.
too true. We gave up on HP scanners about a decade ago, although to be fair, I can't say that Cannon or Epson have great software. It just doesn't suck as bad as HPs.
...if I have more than 1000 or so messages in a folder. It just searches...and searches...and searches...never showing any hits. Searching my inbox? Impossible. the only way I can search is to use folders, and then hope I'm searching the right folder...which kind of negates the whole point of searching.
...the reason companies aren't investing in customers that they probably can't make a profit on is because they don't have enough cash laying around. Funny how whenever a corporation is caught screwing their customers, we're told they have to do that because they're required by law to maximize profits, but when we suggest regulating them we're told that if we'd only leave them alone they'll gladly do the right thing out of the goodness of their hearts.

If you guessed multi-national conglomerates, you win! Yes, that probably includes your local paper, and most of the radio stations you hear.

"complete and utter legal ignoramuses do not end up as high-level judges"
That's debatable, but it's obvious that authoritarian asshats have been filling the benches for the last couple decades at least.
they're pretty good. Great acronym, and the title isn't some convoluted mess concocted to create such an acronym.

A car can do a lot of things a pencil can't. What can a man do on Mars that a robot can't?

....they're just rocket scientists!
"JPL's 5,000 workers have access to that data with any mobile devices they want to use, as long as it has first been secured.
Apparently that moron doesn't realize who secured those mobile devices. Hint: Starts with Help, ends with Desk.
I like your definition.
...Nazi plunder. Almost 60 years after the war ended, the original owners still have a right of recovery.
What, too Godwin?
Don't even joke about that!!

...with fire. And put through a wood chipper. Makes using networked HP printers, which we've used for decades, pure hell.
technology coming down the pike. the new diesels look especially intriguing. And it appears the rotary isn't dead, it's just restin'.
but the I nearly jumped out of my chair the first time I saw the giant scorpions in Dungeon Master.
It's a good start

he's been rooted, and Windows is just pretending to update.
