    Plain and simple. Regarding her due diligence in protecting her personal information, no action can be taken in regard to disemination of the informatin on the page she 'carelessly' threw in the trash. At least that's what my legal sense tells me (IANAL)

    But the submittal of the form for a credit-card is another matter. It indicates someone forged her signature (even if the signature doesn't look anything like your wife's sig) and submitted the form, or someone accepted the form without a signature. Both could lead people in serious trouble with the law.

    Well, the underlying topic at least.

    Tinkering like this will advance science at some point. Most good inventions had an air of mishap about them, something besides what was being researched was the important discovery.

    It was extremely cool to go to the moon, a great feat of heroism and dedication. The most important technological advance made (for society) wasn't rocketry but probably how to aggregate large quantities of data.

    There are probably lot better examples of what i'm talking about. Got any? Use the reply link ;)

    There are just too many valid defenses for them to settle. This would be an opportunity for the Libre Crowd to deal the RIAA a bloody nose. Somebody step up to the plate and get a defense fund going. I'm dirt poor (university student) AND a non-US citizen, but I would part with 10$ to see this girl DEFENDED.

    require a specific OS so as not to have a support nightmare on their hands. A friend of mine is in an undergraduate Business Admin campus, no CS. They only allow Win2K, XP home/pro.
    Now he's an OsX nut and loves Apple more than life itself but hunkered down and wept while paying for a PC laptop.
    While I understand the reasoning behind the policy (These are after all, pointy-haired-bosses in training) one would think that anyone savvy enough to WANT a non-M$ box in that crowd is more likely to GIVE tech-support than NEED it ;)

    If ESA intends to get cheap access to space they should be looking at cheaper alternatives than a reusable space-shuttle. Even if the NASA model is made more economical, it's only going to be a fraction of the savings compared to looking at other alternatives

    Mabey this will give NASA som clout to go to Congress with an aggressive plan to conquer the Red Planet before the 2nd tier space nations go where USA has gone before.

    This will also be interresting in terms of the tech spinoffs. Remember, the tech had to be INVENTED for the 1969 moon flight. What is possible with todays tech and how will this expand our understanding of the application of todays 'best tech'?

    Any spam measure taken at a server level could induce false positives.

    I manage paid-for e-mail e-zines which I mail using PHP and sendmail (read:forged headers until I'm big enough to run my own server).

    Wouldn't most server-layer anti-spam measures catch my very suspicious HTML e-zines, even if paid for?

    They have no requirement to release any software running on the GPL PLATFORM as GPL.

    You can have proprietary code running on Linux.

    I think your fallacy is that you actually cannot be INSIDE the singularity when the event horizon forms. The explotion caused by the last energy/matter particle/wave that pushes the object past the threshold would likely expand from the 'center'.

    Or am I taking a too classical view of the whole shebang?
