Nice call there, except not everyone is stealing when they use the internet. If you are doing any work on big data projects like astrophysics, etc you would use a lot of bandwidth
Sony, EMI, Warner Bros, and Universal are stealing from Education, Tax Payers, and Musicians. Feel free to spread that.
To bad you cannot take an airline that does not need to use the TSA and just risk it. Regular airlines would go out of business in a week if you could.
Netmeeting is an excellent example of why Google is doing better. Microsoft had an easy way to share desktops, integrating netmeeting into a chat client. I used it for years and it was great. Well, guess what? They did away with that for some service called live meeting. Live meeting does not work and has a bunch of features no-one I work with needs. We gave up on trying to use it and have been using third party shareware apps. They don't work as well, but Microsoft has driven us away. If Microsoft was smart, they would not have looked at Netmeeting as a marketing opportunity to sell a license for every seat and tried to extend Netmeeting to other platforms. But they didn't, and it is yet another app they loose in their hedge against the competition. Dumb on their part, but it has been their mode of operation for the last several years.
If you can, send these guys a couple of bucks. If paid off politicians cannot be bothered to fight for our rights, then support the people who are. And make sure when your State Rep or Senator solicits for money that you tell them where you spent it instead of on them.
How hard is it to cache the ram and have it reload on startup if the checksum clears. Microsoft should be able to do this and have everything the same if you are doing a full boot or "instant on".
The taliban just holed up and have been waiting it out. Bush diverted resources to Iraq rather than get at the last of the strongholds in Afganistan. It was a huge mistake and the taliban are regrouping.
If you want to feel threatened, try going to a less developed country. Would be best if you had been there before so you could compare.
But Bush used none of those options, he choose option 5.
5) Attack the Taliban, but not finish them off. Over throw a country he wanted for his Dad's legacy (Bankrupting the US between bad regulation policy and the Iraq War). Alienate the US from it's allies by making unilateral and uninformed decisions. Make everyone else hate the US (thus making it easier for Al Queda to recruit)
US citizens are definitively less safe going outside of the US. Hardly what the conservative hawks and Bush thought would happen.
I think that you are glossing over three decades of Microsoft stifling innovation, locking out others, and bullying. It is a very healthy thing to scrutinize Microsoft's activity and make sure others know to be wary of them. If they are going to behave differently they are not going to gain trust over night. But there is nothing so far that show that Microsoft is behaving any less badly than they have before.
Microsoft can only copy Linux so fast. Now if they could just copy the feature exactly without nerfing it or loosing sight of what is important for it to do.
But the RIAA members (Sony, Universal, Warner Brothers, and EMI) have been trying for years to get everyone to use DRM formated music. If Walmart pulls the plug, even though some people might re-purchase music, they would have learned a hard lesson on DRM and be less likely to buy it in the future, thus crushing the RIAA dream.
How exactly is piracy on a console going to be any different than a PC for an MMO. That is almost as silly as saying console gamers are more "hardcore" gamers. To be honest, hardcore games don't want watered down crap, and I have a hard time seeing how you could not have it watered down on a console with, what, 8 buttons. They should make a basketball or football MMO for the consoles. That is about the right audience for it.
I have tried both World of Warcraft and Warhammer as a new user over the last several weeks and my take is that Warhammer has a ways to go on who they are catering to before they can become successful on more than a niche level. EA/Mythic does not understand that when you login, you should not have to sit through the company logo clips, and have to manually skip the cinematic... then skip the EULA (again, every time) to finally be able to get to your character. Which you then have to wait as it loads. Logging out of Warhammer is just as painful. You have to sit there for 20 seconds for it to decide to do something. What rocket scientist thought that would be a great idea? With World of Warcraft, you just login and load, that is it. You can pop in and out to play. Also in Warhammer, you cannot really talk to anyone easily you have to wonder who they thought would be playing? People seem to like MMO for the other players, but aside from the public quests, Warhammer have really has an alienating setup. Both from a player and community perspective.
They don't print 80% GE or 10% Vivendi or what ever on the product so who cares. If you make the Universal Brand evil it hurts all of those companies in one shot.
I agree with your assessment, but the average joe is not powerless. If you cannot buy it through a channel not related to the RIAA, it is still worth while to attack these companies with negative press. The RIAA companies (Sony,EMI,Warner Brothers,Universal) are very sensitive about their brands. If their brands start to suffer as a result of negative press, they will change their behavior.
To stop the RIAA, everyone needs to hurt those that fund the RIAA.
These are the companies that need to be vilified.
- Sony
- EMI
- Universal
- Warner Brothers
PC gaming is not dying. This is really just a myth put forth by console manufacturers to influence the naive. I would not be surprised if the Anonymous Coward that posted this worked for one of them.
He can start by suing Sony, EMI, Warner Brothers, and Universal (the RIAA) for the unnecessary burden to the tax payers of them trying to make their businesses a government problem.

One question. If I am so biased, why are there on going operations in Afghanistan and American Soldiers still coming home dead from there.

And just send them back and forth through any ISP that uses this. Would be funny to watch them try to figure it out.

or Sony, Universal, Warner Brothers, and EMI freaked out and begged Walmart not to kill their dream of an all DRM digital world?

The irony of saying Sony is a shining example of what you should do is not lost on me. Sony is just as bad.
You must live in a bomb shelter with 2 years of food so no one can get you. Please stay there, but stop using the internet. Thanks. Everyone.

Yes, I missed that. I am an idiot.

When it costs more with DRM than without it (lost sales and lawyers) companies will pick no DRM. I think the pendulum is starting to swing that way.
