that first page loads all funky. try clicking on the photo links in the body of the post right here on /.

  2. i don't think this is the first time.... on Neuromancer: The Movie · · Score: 1

that neuromancer has been in pre-production. i've heard about various contract level negotiations for a movie version of the book since 1991 or so (which is about the time i heard about gibson) but then again this is the internet so.....

the site is pretty much vapor. loads slow even on a t3 - almost as slow as blairwitch.com. looks purty though - index animation is kinda nice although that font makes me think of some satanic version of mash in space.

  3. gotta love the *cyberpatrol* angle on LucasFilms suing 'net Pirates · · Score: 1

god, everyone from the guardian angels to jerry fallwell has been trying to do this ever since the everyman's conception of the internet widened beyond the myopic view provided by aol.
the only thing that frightens me about that entire article is the arrogant and overconfident tone that the whole thing takes on.

sorta off the point, i don't think that lucas will ever make a movie worth seeing. the whole savant genius thing got buried under a pile of money and a busload of fratboys with boba fett tattoos.

we get the onion for free here in denver too. there's actually a box right outside of my work - one of the few amenities.

something lacking thought on the web?!?! absurd.

there is less smart but infinitely cooler and more expressive sounding about motherfucker as opposed to oedipus. sorta like hanging out with the MC5 instead of your high school latin class.

  6. Re:Why? on Storm Linux · · Score: 1

well, i tend to look at it this way: if the kids can't work together and share their toys then maybe they'll at least try to show each other up. let's hope that this will be the effect of all this fragmentation - a competition of improvement not who can make the slickest boxed distro.

a positive note - at least we're not dealing with the "one OS or else" that mac and windows folks have to deal with.

  7. Re:Most "good" links are still being indexed on Search Engines Can't Keep Up · · Score: 1

i don't know about that. yahoo seems to be leaning more towards shopping and less towards infomation. besides the fact that yahoo does a lousy job of cleaning links. a list of results generated from a search is a little like playing minesweeper for dead links which renders it pretty useless when the listing of results is limited.

yes! i cannot remember where i saw it. i think it was one of those super late night tech shows. i distinctly remember them showing television camera equivalents to screenshots.

anyway, just to assure you that you aren't having hallucinations.

  12. this recycled arguement is the saddest on iMac Clone Gets Sued · · Score: 1

i have to agree with both of the previous responses (despite the fact that i always seem to be futilely defending gui's.) that old arguement that you shouldn't know how computers work and that you should just be able to use them is a little ridiculous at this point. most people are so far removed from the actual interactions with the tools that they use every day that it makes me fear for people's toilets overflowing or light bulbs burning out. don't be owned by your machine and don't be so all fired self righteous for not knowing about something.

  13. Re:Toy Toy Toy!!! on Palm Pilots: Tools or Toys? · · Score: 1

yeah! they do look exactly like gameboys. i'd love to have an empty newton case to throw in my bag occasionally - just to make people wonder why the hell i'm carting one around.

thinking more about it (seconds at least) - why not just make a gameboy with an os cartridge and removeable memory cards. that way you could look like a dork and still keep track of whatever it is that palm pilots are keeping track of.

  14. Re:In reverse? on Radiation Protection: Caffeine · · Score: 1

i was thinking the same thing....maybe a little bonus radiation would stop me from breaking into random caffieine sweats.

so, if coffee helps with radiation i can't imagine what my wake up pint of coffee with a double shot of espresso would be proof against.
