I went to Catholic school pretty much all my life. In high shcool, they had a class called "Theology" which you could take for 4 years. Freshman year was all old testament and you learned about creation.
We also had a class called "Biology" which only had 2 levels but in Biology, you learned about Evolution. Creation never came up in Biology. Why? Biology is a science class. In science class, you learn about science. In religion class, you learn about religion.
This was a pretty strict Catholic school for Calofornia. There were no uniforms but you had to dress nice. No jeans because they were believed to be a tool of satan.
Now it stands to reason that if the school dean thought Satan and Levis were involved in some kind of plot to ruin the education system, then you could pretty much call him a bible banging zealot. Even so, he obvisouly understood the value of keeping science in science class and religion in religion class where each topic can be explored to he full extent.
I believe public schools should have a theology elective where people interested in religion can go learn about all types of religion. This would give people the opportunity to really interpret and discuss old testament stories in a way thats not possible in science class. Then, just maybe, the children will learn that the old testament is not a history book.
I find this to be a much better solution since bringing up creation in science class lends it more credability than it deserves. Christians should face the fact that Genesis was written by a bunch of sheep herders who lived in the middle of the desert and had no other way to explain the creation of the universe.
I mean, the google copying is getting out of control. Had a look at MSN search results lately? They do everything the same, even with similar looking HTML. Its lame.
All those applications run on Linux perfectly. I've been using Office and Photoshop for years but I've played with Flash and Illistrator before and I couldn't make them crash.
"There's a ton of stuff we can do to innovate. We don't see that level of innovation [in Linux] that makes us say there's [anything] out there that's better than or more effective than what we can do."
Studios moved away from SGI a while ago and most employ Linux as a cluster as well as on the desktop. Thats old news. Linux is big in entertainment. Even Darl McBride brought this up in an old article with Forbes.
Sony Imageworks gives their old SGI[ machines to employees for free.
Apparently some Sun project manangers are involved in FireFox development now. You just wait, we're making the move from 1.1 to 1.5 now but thats not all they have planned. The next release will be 1.6 but we'll call it 6.0 because higher=better.
I agree, it is the absolute worst answer to give someone. What ends up happening is what I like to call "LDIF" or "Linux Distribution Installtion Frenzy". A syndrome where people install N linux distros just to see if their hardware is 'autodetected' when all they need to do is type 'modprobe usb-storage' or some other trivial command to get what they need.
If anyone new to Linux is reading this, the kernel and Xwindows/X.org determines what hardware your system supports, not the distribution. You can take a 5 year old distro and add SATA support just by changing the kernel. You can add support for a new video card by changing the X.org version or downloading a new driver for it.
I do disagree with the idea of condidering each distro separetely. For instance, I would never use Fedora/Redhat as a workstation. For some reason its so slow on my 1.5Ghz Centrino. I can see Xwindows drawing pixels and it doens't support XFS, JFS, or ReiserFS out of the box. Gentoo, on the other hand, screams with full eye candy in KDE. But, I wouldn't use Gentoo as a server because they tend to make sweeping changes to the file system layout and send down a lot of non-critical patches.
I like the choice of distributions out there. It seems like there are about 10 that can be put into a lot of roles and a lot that fill individial nitches here and there, like Damn Small Linux and the various versions of Knoppix
That depends on your definition of the word "throes" is, as in 'last throes of the insurgency'. At least someone's shiftyness doens't account for thousands dead.
I can see it now. Your making a Linux distro to hone your Linux skills. Like a good person, you release the distro to the public because other people might be looking for a distro that fills some particular nitch.
Next thing you know, you get an email from the Linux police telling you to shut down your project because Redhat already has the Linux thing covered.
When will people understand what open source actually is? Its damn 2005 already. There might be 10 of the same program that does the same thing. LIVE WITH IT. Its not because people are trying to make it hard on you. Most people writing open source don't give a shit about you. They want to learn something particular and release their work under an open source license. Thats it, its not that complicated. Sometimes, a lot of people do the same thing because you can't just have 1 fucking guy making text editors or mp3 players. What if he gets hit by a bus? Then your shit outa luck.
There is a Linux standard. Its called:a kernel and ls, cat, cd, chmod, cp, echo, find, init, locate, grep, less, man, mkdir, mv, ps, pwd, rm, and rmdir. That is your standard. Everything else is optional.
Someone needs to go over there with a clue bat and replace "hacked" with something more accurate like "compromised", or like Slashdot, "exposed", of if they want to try to use the correct lingo "cracked".
Microsoft seems to think it can be the better Bittorrent.
Yeah, they seem to think this about a lot of things.
How is it going to be "faster". Will the software increase the theoretical maximum speed of my cable modem service? Will I magically go from 7mbit/sec to 10mbit second with with this P2P software?

You can drag the google boxes around as well you know.

Check out crossover office.hah, I can't believe this post was modded insightful, its clearly hillarious!
Answer: I don't. I get into my new Ferrari and drive away.
Is Microsoft looking at Linux for a place to find unpatended technology?
Emote icons are sooooo fucking innovative.

I feel a rant with possible profanity coming on.

Would be, "You previously purchased some weed from us, now try LSD at 10% off!"
Make sure to tell that to Ebay, Google, Disney, Yahoo, IBM, and about upteen other major companies who have large installations of Linux desktops.
clues are available here, free of charge: http://www.gnu.org/
Yeah, because its their fault thats happening. Maybe they'll fly right off to Zimbabwe just like you are doing now and pick up a gun and fight.
they put a patent in for command line completion with one special advatage, command line completion while...on the Internet!
So Ted Danson is a genious! I knew it!
I'm sure they will work with 2.6.12 fine, after all, its still Linux isn't it?
I like how the Post titles it:
"40 Million Credit Card Numbers Are Hacked"
Someone needs to go over there with a clue bat and replace "hacked" with something more accurate like "compromised", or like Slashdot, "exposed", of if they want to try to use the correct lingo "cracked".
Wouldn't that be a 'cracker' not a hacker?

god damn it sucks to be a windows admin.
The funny thing is Gentoo is probably THE biggest open source zealot distro out there. I bet the forums are going crazy...I think I'll drop in.
