He told me because I like the oringal works and not the works Lucus wanted to make 'orginally',I'm not a true fan.

I don't know, I don't get it. I think the original versions were great and I didn't like the cheap looking add-ons put it. I thought Episode 1 was boring, Episode 2 was mediocre at best, and 3 was the best prequal.

True, but the problem is that in GNU/Linux most programs are designed to work on the commandline.

In fact, UNIX was originally designed that way for a reason. No proprietary formats, everything text so you could have tons of utilities working together to perform simple tasks. Thankfully, the industry is heading back that way.

  9. I don't get on HOW TO: Convert a Mac into an x86 · · Score: 4, Insightful

How is Mac OSX going to hurt Linux? I mean, people buy Macs to install Linux on them and its not like Apple is going to allow people to install OSX on commodity hardware. Apple is still a hardware company. If anything, the new machiens will just be overpriced commodity Intel gear. $500 for 512 megs of RAM, shit like that.

If anything, its hurts Microsoft bad. Linux is a server OS first, desktop second. There are far more Linux servers out there than desktops and the enterpise is looking for Linux servers to interoperate with their Windows desktops. I don't see OSX making any inroads into the Linux server market, hence, I don't see it to be a threat.

On the other hand, those company's looking to move an alternative desktop may choose OSX over Linux but might have anyway. Not to mention, in a recent survey post people choose Linux to avoid vendor lock in, which is Apple's specialty.

No, they make programs so other windows people can point and click their way to IT glory.

Seriously though I agree but it depends. I mean, if you take a VCC guy and ask him for a KDE app, he *SHOULD* be able to do it with a little studying. If the server application in question is just some database interface or server program, the code is 99% the same. Sounds like laziness to me.

  12. Re:Didn't AMD shoot down Intel's "dual core" claim on Intel Readying Dual-Core Desktop Chip · · Score: 1

Well, for one, they don't work together as well as the AMD. With the Intel, any communiction between the cores has to be done through the FSB, where as with AMD, its done internal to the processor. That is huge. The on-die memory controller on the AMD just makes the chip much more advanced than anything Intel has.

Here is a link with some info on the architecture.

One big advantage AMD has is that as you add cores, the performance hit you take over contention for memory is very low. For example, look at these benchmarks: Opteron vs Xeon

The Operton in a 4-way configuration makes a mockery of the Inetl Xeon and its running 800Mhz slower and with much less power consumption. People updating from dual opteron to quad by going multicore are going to get a lot more bang for their buck, specially since they don't need to buy a new motherboard.
