His "scathing" goodbye post didn't mention anything of that nature. More like, Redhat was talking shit constantly about those "freaky" E people with all of their transparent windows and long greasy hair.
True, but I find it amusing nonetheless. I mean, if Redhat would have supported Rasterman and built a team THREE years ago, Linux would have this stuff now, instead they insulted him.
Now, everyone is falling all over themselves to have next gen desktop technology before Longhorn is released. The GNOME/Redhat are just starting to think about problems that have already been coded, debugged, and optimized by another team.
Rasterman left Redhat because he felt noone there really followed his vision of an X desktop. Here we are years later and we've come full circle. Now, many (if not most) users in the community are looking for highly customizable desktop eyecandy and Gnome, KDE, and Xorg are all out there trying to deliver on what Rasterman was doing 3 years ago.
That you take a default Redhat Linux install and run apache, php, mysql, and make it a web server, then ya, its going to be insecure.
Where Linux + Apache has the advantage is other open source tools:
SE Linux modules mounting world writable partitions as noexec, nosuid (/tmp,/dev/shm) Apache mod_security Tripwire IP Tables firewall with stateful packet filtering
If I forgot anything good, let me know.
When are people going to realize, your Linux distro is like a ball of clay, you have to mold it. If you just want to do a default install of an OS and serve pages, install Win2003, don't install Linux.
So...you tell people that specialize in graphics programming to drop their keyboards and start calling people for specs? Why would you have some of the most talented programmers in the community become lobbyist?
One key points of open source development is that there is lots of different people from lots of different backgrounds doing the jobs they do best. I mean, how much do you think people would contribute if they were told not to work on their field of expertise to but to just email companies and bother them about specs all day? Its like having a bad job except, your not getting paid.
Open source is NOT about controlling the efforts people are making to contribute. Thats why X was forked in the first place. Now that we have people coming out of the woodwork to add great features to X, your complaining?
As an aside: gawd, I hate their use of "patriot" that way, does anybody know the etymology of the word "patriot" with respect to this legislation? Whose idea was it to use "patriot" and why? It seems like the worst/most transparent type of label possible for such a group of laws that seek to strip away personal freedoms and rights to privacy.
They pick these names because its a. more likely the people will go along with it since the name sounds like a good thing and b. no house rep or senator would vote against something called "The Patriot Act". It opens them up to attacks during reelection time when the opponents can air commericals like "Bob Jones voted AGAINST the patriot Act, a vote for Bob Jones is like saying NO to your own safty. Bob Jones is no patriot!"
A lot people don't even know what the Patriot act is. They just hear the name and assume its good. Kinda like the Dept of Homeland Security, which is just a domestic spying agency.
The IEBlog has commentary about the decision making process that went into the new browser version.
Well, I can hazzard a guess to what this enailed. "Download FireFox, look at it, patent everything about it, put the features in IE7, then threaten EU members.
the marketing pics look like bad low budget n-gauge stuff, the ones that show attractive people in hot night clubs using the n-gauge. Here is a hot girl holding oour gadget!!
MS has to stop Linux at all costs, and the cost will be the end of MS. I predict they are going to sink so low that the top brass at MS will end up in jail over Linux. You heard it here first.
How do you "pirate" a TV show? Seems like the wrong term.

....in under 12 parsecs.
I love my Tivo, there is no other way to watch tv. What do I do when they go away? How do I get my updates?
Isn't this just a standard feature of C or C++?
Linux.
sucks for us developers in the USA. The EU is going to become prime territory for kick ass software products.

Can't people just be fucking crazy anymore?
Obviously, someone has spyware problem they can't handle.

What about the Eolas patent?
If Gates gets fired there is always room for him at the pentagon.
Can you 'emerge' stuff on debian?
Obviously, the makers of this device didn't like that statement but, I'd hardly call it flaimbait

That sculpture is an obvious reproduction of that ship in "Flight of the Navigator". David Freeman should put the smack down on thier ass.

Sorry, I meant to include "intelligent responses only" at the end of my post.
