    I agree with you and the marketing people. One thing I found very confusing when I first started to learn JAVA was actually figuring out...what the hell JAVA actually was because everything was named "Java Something".

    Isn't there already like 3 precedents that have been set that basically shot down using the DMCA to protect your business model? We have the garage door opener thing, the ink cartridge thing, and....I think there was one other.

    I mean, if all that is required for locking people into buying service from you is adding some brain dead authentication scheme, thats just lame.

    I think StorageTek will loose.

    How hard can it be to write voting software that increments a number by 1. I mean, a damn computer can increment a number pretty fucking well, don't you think? I'm a programmer and it boggles my mind the Linux kernel could be written in a distributed manner by developers around the world but DieBold can write a program to increment a fucking number by 1.

    I've seen it 1000 times. Its because Windows folks use ping to look up hostnames and IP addresses. I don't think their machines come with the proper utilities and they are usually not clued in enough to know anything about DNS, otherwise I would hold it against them.

    When people stop buying CDs from RIAA artists. Which, after close to three years of this nonsense, they haven't. In fact, according to SoundScan, OTC sales are actually up.

    People will never stand up for their rights because a. people are friggin idiots and b. the sales increases are driven by P2P. The RIAA is having their cake and eating it too per say. Not only do they enjoy the benefits of P2P, they sue for damages on top of that.

    Most people copied the .ebuild into their overlay directory or simply checked out the CVS tree on their own. For the majoritity of Gentoo users it was a non-issue. The gentoo maintainers didn't even care, just a few hot heads in the forums who like to stir things up.

    When I said no games work, I meant games with copy protection....basically, newer titles that required the CD in the drive for checks would not work with CVS Wine version because it didn't have the copy protection modules. You know, BF1942 and the like.

    Ironic, really, since WineX makes Ports less likely...

    Yeah, To bad 2003 had more linux game ports than any other year in history, and 2004 is on pace to beat that at the same time that Wine/WineX are more popular then ever.
