For me, Digg's primary advantage more modern, more readable page design. However, as other have mentioned many time, Digg's story comments are never, ever interesting or informative,

Los Angeles Downtown Marriot, 4:30 - 6:00. Should be fun. I really don't understand the hostility some of you feel over this thing. Subjects that lead to Geek Rage would be an interesting research topic.

Life will pull everything back together. Its the obvious result of life in a universe such as ours. Already life on this planet is concerned about heat death! You think by the time heat death is real problem life won't be able to do anything about it?

Notice I am using life, not humans. A big difference.

In time, all matter in the universe will be part of living things. Just wait and see. :)

  8. I enjoyed all of the original Dune books. on Sci-fi Channel's Children of Dune · · Score: 1
I always wonder about those who complain about the Dune sequels. To me, they are amazing feats of imagination and exploration of human potential. It would be amazing to see a Peter Jackson level devotion to the creation of totality of the Dune series. To see the God Emperor in his full glory, endlessly squashing endless clones of Duncan, until finally getting the Duncan he seeks! Incredible stuff. And who can forget The Honored Madres, the perverse Reverend Mothers of the later books, who rule with sexual techniques that reduce men into slathering slaves. And the Bashar who achieves "Matrix"-sequel time-dilation (long before The Matrix films), and kills every person in a giant Reverend Mother facility before the guards out front finish turning around to see what's up. The scene afterwards in a cafe where eats an amazing quantity of food to replace the energy he just let loose on Madres is classic.

Here's to hoping Sci Fi goes all the way to Chapterhouse.

  9. Example usage from the book. on SmartDust Sensorwebs 'Real Soon Now' · · Score: 1
I was just re-reading this great book today... below is a paragraph where one of the book's heros is interviewed by Thomas Nau, the book's primary villain. Vinh calls his "smart dust" Localizers.
Thomas let the Peddler Rattle on. He listened, nodded, asked the reasonable questions... and watched the analysis that spread across his huds. Lordy. The localizers in the air, on Vinh's chair, even on his skin, reported to the Invisble Hand, where programs analyzed and sent the results back to Nau's huds, painting Vinh's skin with colors that showed galvanic response, skin temperature, perspiration. Standard graphics around the face showed pulse and other internals. An inset window showed what Vinh was seeing from his place across the desk, and mapped his every eye movement with red tracks. Two of Brugel's snoops were allocated to this interview, and their analysis was a flowing legend across the top of Nau's vision. Subject is relaxed to tenth percentile of the normal interview level. Subject is confident but wary, without sympath for the Podmaster. Subject is not currently trying to supress expicit thought.

  10. Why Sidekick is the Best PDA Yet on Do People Really Use Their PDAs? · · Score: 1

I have used every brand of PDA over the years, from the Newton 110 on. This is why I can say with absolute certainty that the Sidekick (made by Danger and offered through T-Mobile) is the best yet. Always-on internet makes synching a thing of the past, and the browser and IM client are honestly useful. The always-on internet is truely a big, huge, happy addition to the PDA concept, an addition that indeed transforms the things into something unique, useful, and even important.

With the promise of Danger pushing over-the-air software updates to the device, and the upcoming developer kit, I am honestly thrilled to own the thing, knowing the the very device I already own witll get more exciting and useful as time passes.
