5.2 to 7 in one go? Maybe 5.2 worked better for you than it did for me, but in any case, that's a big gap and I'm not really surprised it didn't work out...
If I was still running mdk 8.1, I would agree with this. That was an excellent version (my first taste of mdk after Slackware and several years of Redhat), and I have been mightily disappointed with 8.2 which has needed much tweaking to get packages to compile right and work right. My feeling is that mdk8.2 was rushed out of the door as a result of their much-publicised cash flow problems. However, I am aware that others have not had as many difficulties with this release as I have.

If you want a decent thesaurus, I suggest you spend the $15 or whatever it is in your currency and get a dead-tree version (preferably Roget's). For "power" (English) language users, it's the only way to go...
I'm playing devil's advocate here, since I personally like footnotes, but still... under the Harvard Referencing system, footnotes are not actually necessary, and for most purposes are deprecated.
As a science student, I find tables an essential part of any word processor. While I _love_ the speed of Abi and the gtk look/feel, without this feature Abi is worthless to me, so I'm stuck with SO or OO for the time being...:-(

Tell that to Antonio Stradivari - he managed to make quite a few reasonably passable fiddles back in the 18th century by combining spruce, maple and ebony. One or two have even survived:-)
You'll be lucky (or clever) if it does... I used to have a 6326 and nothing supported it; I ended up having to get a new mobo... (btw, I can recommend nvidia's Geforce cards).
I can understand the alacrity with which the salvage guys came around when the company I worked for back in the early eighties was decommissioning their Burroughs B3700. You could easily have filled a small truck with all the heavy-duty silver cable under the false floor.
I find it a bit hard to appreciate the attraction for glass cable, and I can only admire them if they can make it worthwhile...
Here in Perth, Western Australia they do the opposite...
Under the aegis of "traffic calming", successive sets of traffic lights are programmed to turn red. This in a city the size of, say, (Greater) London, but with 5% of the population density.
Needless to say, it doesn't leave many of us very calm:-)
Given that Celera's methodologies for genetic assay are currently the subject of fairly heated debate, I wonder if it makes any difference whose DNA is used.
I've been playing with this recently using Linphone, a SIP client which works nicely, but...
Trouble is, I have a dynamic IP, and I haven't yet found a SIP address registry that works with linphone, and it's a bit of a pain to set up a routine to post my current IP to a webpage form (since I know my non-geek friends won't know what to do with it).
Has anybody found a registry that plays friendly with linphone?
Fair enough: SuSE has its origins in Slack anyway, and, let's face it, current Slack is not exactly an easy bedmate on the desktop...

Actually, 5.1 under AOS/VS (or even DOS) was pretty good too... it all went downhill with WYSIWYG. I prefer YAFIYGI (You Asked For It, You Got It).
You beat me to it... :-)

try:
strings $filename | less
or > some_useful_filename - there's no beating the power of ASCII :-)

Means they've got nothing to say that they hadn't already said in 7.2; ie nothing to justify any more than a point release...
After a brief fling with Slackware, I used RH from 5.2 to 7.1, learning to live with and work around their broken packages.
I switched to Mandrake 8.1 and liked it, but IMHO 8.2 was rushed out the door too quickly, and I love it no more. :-(
Now I'm just hanging out for Woody to be released...
Just a conspiracy - just see this page :-)
Tho' I guess I'll have to... :-|
Zik Zak corporation is Microsoft's role model :-)
I have often wondered why M$ hasn't already tried this - it seems a logical (and typical) approach.
I'm impressed.

anything with a SiS chipset again after the bloody time I had getting my last one to play nice with Linux :-(
UMAX - probably the worst supported scanners under Linux - I've got an Astra 610P, and still have to use WINE to get it to work :-
Hunt the Wumpus... :-)
True, but Galeon is a great package now, and doesn't cost a cent.
