  1. I had this but fixed it on 10.2.4 Killing Battery Life · · Score: 1

I can report the following experience on a 15in 1Ghz
    Powerbook G4:

After upgrading to 10.2.4 the battery life went down to 02:05 hrs while I used to get 03:45 under the same conditions.

Applecare suggested resetting the PMU (a liddle button -see their website on where this is) and the PRAM (hold opt-apple-P-R duing the boot and wait for 4 chimes). I did this, after draining the battery and just measured the battery life as being restored to 04:05 hrs!

I hope this info proves useful to people.

  2. Question for the readers on .NET CLI Now Runs On Mac OS X · · Score: 5, Interesting
Does this mean that one day we can expect to see e.g. Microsoft Office running on FreeBSD?

i.e. is the intention that all of their future software will be layered on top ot .NET ?

  3. Joswiak on Apple Sticks with CRTs For Now · · Score: 1

This Apple exec is called Joswiak? Is that a quantum superposition of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak? Will Apple be releasing a Quantum G5?

winssh from bitvise is your inexpensive first class sshd solution, I've used it on 2000 and XP winssh.com

  5. Re:Interesting grouping of stories... on WebMail Beta II Available · · Score: 1

It supports any web browser, as you might expect a webmail app to, works fine with OmniWeb in particular (unlike the rest of iTools which complains unless you change the ID string)

  6. QT port? on KDE Ported to Mac OS X · · Score: 2, Insightful

Rather that port KDE via XDarwin would it not make more sense to port the apps vie a port of the QT toolkit to Aqua? I think QT is available for OS X, the web page at Trolltech appears to say so http://www.trolltech.com/products/qt/index.html I don't know if this means you get an Aqua look 'n feel...

  7. So this is what it takes on Universe Beige, not Turquoise · · Score: 4, Informative

Hi this is Glazebrook here (honest!)

I am a regular slashdot reader for my sins. Finally an incentive to actually sign up.

I am amused to see the story got on the front pages this time, sorry that I had to be wrong to achieve this feat!

hope you all read the web page and about the science of starlight (and color!)

    http://www.pha.jhu.edu/~kgb/cosspec/

and it's much more complicated than 'averaging 3 numbers'. The color is a volume-averaged - deredshifted (otherwise it would not be very meaningful) sum of all starlight. Those of you with www skills will be able to track down the origin of the erroneous software I will not deprecate it here.

p.s. the color suggestions are poring in, my favorite so far is 'cosmic latte'
