Didn't intel give us the ability to identify an individual pc on the net by it's processor ID?
Standard practice for MOST people that know about this is to turn it off, and I'm not sure if this "feature" has been removed the p4's. But it is present in all p3's.
With that activated, an API of the OS can ask the proc for it's ID and include it in online transactions, letting you say that wasn't me my procID is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX not YYYYYYYYYYYYYY..
any other clock drift, or any network characteristics can be forged. The proc ID can be as well, but if they're targetting someone specific. The attacker would have to learn that procID and then use it.
Of course, i could be completely mistaken. But that doesn't happen often.
as for the "NOT the vison of our future Gene painted"
You're not factoring in that this is first earth ventures into distance space. They're contact with the universe is being heavily controlled by the vulcans. Which Archer was complaining about constantly in the beginning. If they havn't been adventuring and meeting other cultures yet, how are they going to gain the trust and learn to trust them enough to let them join the crew of the first major venture into space?
The cultural diversity of the crew would come as they venture and make friends and learn to trust these cultures with their ships.
ever occur to you that since it's a thai finance minister that it might be an armored car? not unheard of for important people to use these, and even for governments to have fleets of them (US for example). An armored car would have bullet proof windows, and be airtight to keep the occupants safe from a airborn agents.
better to be quiet and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt...
I'm married, and have a kid.. and I read /. daily..
Your point?

Does this not make sense?
