Since Taco is seemingly trying to kill this company's hardware, I suggest you all (Who've not already seen this book, since, well, it's a dupe) head on over to the Google Cache and spare the poor company's servers.
Now, mind you, I come from the "use the laws whenever its neccesary" group; see my Journal, and you'll see a few examples. Now, in my opinion, if you can use the DMCA, use it. Yes, it may be an evil piece of legislature, but its also a good piece; it often depends on how it's applied. In this case, you've got every right to nail this guy, and I vote you do it.
Of course I don't GPL my software (I prefer the LGPL and BSD-style liscenses, or ones of my own crafting). And, I believe patents and copyrights are well and good, so you may not be looking for my opinion. But, that is what I have to say, so best of luck, and I hope you nail the sucker. =)
I've tried to use Freenet; never could get it up and running under Mac OS X. =(
But, yes it is the general idea; but, it tends to be (from what I've read) unreliable. This seems like more of a central, easily accesable network for such needs.
Zoning restrictions are laws which say what you can run/build where. Some are for health concerns, some are to prevent explosions, etc etc.
One such example is when we built a pool at our house it had to X feet (Can't remeber how many) from the septic tank. Also, the pipes supplying propane had to be about one foot under the ground, and had to be some amount of feet away from any electrical lines in the area (For obvious reasons).
This is a good idea. Find the DVD encryption key? Post it here. Find something out about your government that could get you killed? Post it here. This opens up great possiblities for those of use living in the age of Pointdexter, the DMCA, and the Patriot Act. While we may not need it yet, it's nice to know it's there. And, who knows. Maybe this could be used in conjunction with my DMCA Loophole idea, in which one uses the DMCA against itself to protect programs and texts which violate it, and illegal music.
And, for those of you who want a visual interpretation of how this could work, I got this off of google. It's an interactive flash animation which shows one possible design of how it could work; and, if it works close to this, it's gonna be really cool.
For those of you who are unclear on piles, read this:
"Apple holds a patent on this one. Developed by Gitta Salomon and her team close to a decade ago, a pile is a loose grouping of documents. Its visual representation is an overlay of all the documents within the pile, one on top of the other, rotated to varying degrees. In other words, a pile on the desktop looked just like a pile on your real desktop.
To view the documents within the pile, you clicked on the top of the pile and drew the mouse up the screen. As you did so, one document after another would appear as a thumbnail next to the pile. When you found the one you were looking for, you would release the mouse and the current document would open.
Piles, unlike today's folders, gave you a lot of hints as to their contents. You could judge the number of documents in the pile by its height. You could judge its composition very rapidly by pulling through it."
I have to say I like the concept of piles; it's the type of intuitive idea I like to see coming from UI design. In fact, it reminds a lot of another awesome UI idea, Clutter, an interface for iTunes. It shows all of the CDs you have as CD cases/covers on your desktop. Double click, and you've got your CD running in iTunes.
This seems like an awesome UI concept, and one which will (Once again) put the Mac GUI head and shoulders above the rest.
By releasing a product which uses 1/2 of the Mac's power, they've crippled it. It would be similar to capping that 3ghz pentium to 1.5ghz, in which cause the Mac would (Guess what) slaughter the PC.
If you can run the games (Since it's a port of the JVM for GBA), can it run _any_ Java applications? Because if it could, then this could turn the GBA into something very much hackable...
Maybe it could be turned into a basic wearable computer...? Hmmm...
Man, are they going to have a hard time selling to you:)
Haha, I don't tend to piddle with menus _that_ much (Unless I'm horribly bored). You are correct, however; it's there. Though, it brings you to this page which is merely to sell iPod/Music related stuffs.
Does this seem like something which could be used as a replacement for DSL/Cable in areas where there is none? I personally live in one,.5mi out of range from Cable. So, the 31mi range is most likely more than that of DSL and/or Cable. So, while it is slower, this does seem like something which could be used to replace and/or suppliment DSL/Cable.
Yeah...because when a big corporation does something wrong, we should exact revenge upon all of its customers.
Actually, we should; it's called putting pressure on the corporation. If we were to pressure the corp, then they'll give in if enough users are f-ed up.
FYI -- Hackers are peopel who tinker, and make better. Your thinking of crackers, who break things and are in general bad. Linux is made by hackers. Money is stolen by crackers.
I'm guessing the "exploit" (Or creative hack, as the case may be) is making use of bootable memory-card saves, which seems a dumb thing to do in the first place, but eh, better for us.
What I'm wondering is how exactly it works? I'm sure the bootable save is probably altered to boot linux as opposed to the game, but how'd they do it?
Well, considering you most likely have a small quantity of money, token gestures may be required.
First off, I'd _allow_ and/or _encourage_ Geek activities (This _is_ a Geek workforce we're talking about, no?). Say, maybe you could have an after hours LAN party? And of course you'd need to allow/.ing, etc, during work hours. of course, not to excess.
Also, assure the rest of them (Falsely or not) that their jobs are secure, that the company needs them, etc etc. THis tends to be important. Also, reward productivity. Maybe $50 for a good worker? Not expensive, but it will boost moral.

Hmm..can ya post a binary? I'd love to get Freenet up and running on me iBook.

Yes, yes I do.
Naw, the pool is propane heated.

Brave, insane souls...
Uhhh, my iBook with 16mb VRAM supports QE too...

Yea, Adobe's a real good Mac software maker.

Uhh, where? I'm looking at iTunes, and it's...not there...
See how bad it's gotten?!

Anyone have any _solid_ info?
The SDR-4X II. While it's not as customizable (And therefore I'd rather have the other one), it looks like it could be fun as well.
I can see Butler Bots appearing. Maybe an aftermarket for "Robot Modules", sort of like software now? Could be fun!
