I guess this is a viable option for software companies; I mean, it's exactly what large clothing companies do to their manufacturing, why not software giants?
My only question is, if you have questions with the code, aren't you going to need a translator for the comments?
Having read the article, this is exactly the same as what they have now (read: A picture), only they're making it so it's harder to counterfit.
*shrug* I actually think it's a good idea. Not nearly as intrusive as what the EU is doing, and makes things a bit harder to forge. Not more true security, I guess, but instead makes it better for the US to make sure everyone is legit.
Nothing to worry about, unless these things dislike magnets as much as PCs do...
What's this worth? The images on a smart-chip are going to be lower resolution tham your passport image, and I don't see what good being sure you are who you say you are is going to do..
It doesn't effect privacy either; it's just kinda worthless, since "Adbar" could be a terrorist, but hey, we don't know that; we just know he's Adbar! 100%!

Well, now we know what their plan was. As everyone suspected, it's not to sue.
This way, they make money without legal fees, and don't need to prove anything. The only thing that can stop this is a countersuit...which I very much hope we see.
I'm glad to see Freenet progressing so well; especially it being resiliant to the/. effect (read: DOS attacks), and it being faster (!) han the WWW.
Freenet is an awesome idea, and very rapidly becoming one that is neccesary to ensure your protection. Although it is a double edged sword (It can help both good, and bad people), I think it's one that is neccesary. And, if it becomes speedier than the web at large, it'd be just freaking awesome. Now, no one needs to fear censorship, nor do they need to fear the government shoving them into a database.
Now if only I could get it running on my Mac OS X box...
It's interesting that he still has the source code floating around. Normally you'd not hang on to something like that; but, I don't think it's going to help them out.
Now, IANAL, but I'm pretty sure you need to file patent suits ASAP, or you lose your ability to do so. And, Amazon has been using this tech for a while.
Hey, but he should post the source! Then we could see it!

I am wondering, however, if a magnet effects EEPROM as adversly as it effects normal magnetic storage (Is EEPROM magnetic?).
IF they get someone on there, then I can jump for joy; until then, it could very well be bogus. Only time will tell...

Uh, read the second half of my post that I had accidently left out (accidental submit clicking).
I must be famous! Or something...
Dear god...
Or, if this guy wasn't a total idiot, he'd search for Apple -computer to weed out all the Apple Computer sites.
However, when I search for "Apples", I get:

Actually, it says nowhere what the resolution is to be, but if I had to guess, it'll be 1024x768. *shrug* Could be wrong. =p
Oh, and since the $2000 is the base price, then it's actually $400 more and the AliBook.
Powerbook killer? At $200 US more? (The site up there says it will be "$2000")
The one downside to Freenet..
Thanks for the tip; downloading mp3s has had me very frustrated...
Dammit, I hate it when I miss things.
It never does anything for me..

Sorry! =/ For once, I was wrong.
Scary stuff.
Try out OpenOffice.org for Mac OS X; I've got it, and it works really, really well!
