Most hackers who can cover their tracks get caught in a less technical way. Just becuase your a good cracker doesn't mean your a good criminal. There is much more to commiting a crime then the actual execution. Most criminals plan up to and including their crime but rarely what they will do afterwards.
One example of 3 dimensions not being at 90 degrees of each other is latitude, longitude, and altitude. Any point can be defined with these measurements but its not usually what we call dimensions.
CPU has almost nothing to do with boot time. Boot time is basically a measurement of how fast the data can get from the hard drive/other bottable media to the ram. The CPU becauswe unimportant long ago in doing this. You want fast boot time? Get DDR RAM and/or a SCSI hard drive. When i got my Western Digital JB series hard drive (8mb cache series) my boot time went down a lot. Although i dont have SCSI myself my system boots plenty fat with a fast IDE drive.
Apparently neither have you... When you smoke crack you dont call it a bowl. A crack pipe is usually called a stem and is basically a hollow tube, no bowls to put the crack in.
Now if the mods are on crack then maybe this will be modded up... if the myth isn't true then im going to modded into oblivion. Either way ill know if they smoke crack or not.
You are totally right about perception. It would be possible to simulate a different matrix world for each person without much difficulty. All you need to simulate at one time in a world is whatever can be seen, touches, heard, smelled, or tasted but each person. Much of the world could be stored database style and not pulled up untill someone needs to experiance it.
Also, as for the inhabitants of the matrix using science to discover the fact that would also be easy to prevent. The computers simply need to cheat. They can simulate what a scientist would see or hear in each simulation. Lets say someone used a microscope, all that needs to be simulated would be what is displayed in the eye of the scientist.
But those same floods keep million of square miles of farmland fertile. Flooding is a natural cycle. I dont think that we can out-think nature this time as we havent been able to many other times.

You want really easy automatic hardware detection? Try out mandrake... It will run on most any consumer hardware.
BitTorrent jsut wont scale well in the future. Many large servers are located close to internet backbones. When many end users on home connections are hosting files to other end users the overall traffic used goes up. Traffic from a BitTorrent server to client goes through more hops on average then a standard iso mirror. This means that although an individual user will get faster downloads the backbones will become more swamped. Also ISP costs will go up which will move down to end users like me.
This is exactly it. This is why video card's price doesn't scale well. If the flagship $400 card was simply a fast version of a $100 card nobody would buy it. Would you really pay $300 more for a few more mhz on your RAMDAC?
Your wrong. If every distro gave one option then the distros that chose wrong would die off. Now that every distro gives you every choice i see no difference between any of them. So do i want to choose between 6 different IM programs under redhat, mandrake, slackware, gentoo, or suse? Does it matter? Not really. Damn all i want is something easy.
On my home machine, I've come across this scenario: I download program A. In order to compile it, I need lib X, Y, and Z. I download them all. Library Y fails to compile because it requires B and C. I download B and have to upgrade C. But B depends on E. And E seems to be installed. 45 minutes later, I quit. On my distro this will never happen, because our install files will include everything. Hard disks are large and cheap these days.
Thats from the article and i almost cried when i read that. Its so true down to the letter (haha get it? never mind). Why is it that i spend hours tracking down dependancies only to find that the final one is "already installed" and im basically just screwed. I try and try to run linux but honestly i spend most of my time in win2k. Why? well i only have to reboot every few days which aint bad. Win2k makes everything work at least sort of.
There is still a huge gap in useability between windows and linux and its people who claim its so user friendly whoa re jsut going to burn anyone who tries to switch and makes them feel stupid.
I agree with you mostly but as the devils advocate i would like to ask if you would hire someone convicted of fraud to do your accounting? I dont think i would becuase i would be afraid they would somehow steal from me or whatnot. You would hafta be sure that any hacker you hire wont simply fnie holes and use them for their own purposes. Im not really sure how to judge someone that well i guess.
Are you refering to the great firewall of china? That whole topic is blown way out of porportion. Yes Cisco did sell some routers and other network equipment to china and yes they did add some custom equipment and hardware but thats no different than any other large customer. So they sold China some firewalls and routers. Who cares what they do with it. Its china's problem not ours. If you dont like it fine dont buy from them but please dont try and walk around all day with the additude that we need to fix other country's problems.
Too bad you cant safely test very many cows for this disease. Oh and the article talks about how nobody has died of this disease but thats not true. Many people in america have died by this disease yet nobody seems to notice.
It is extremely difficult... mayeb more so than rocket science. How will avoiding "unknown" sources save you? Mad cow disease has been found all over the place. Yes it has been found in America and yes it has KILLED people in America. There is no way to know how much more there is here. There is no test you can just get at the doctor to tell if you have it or not. You also cant test your meat AND it cant be cooked out. CJD will infect you if ingested even after being cooked to hundreds of degrees.
Also the type of meat product doesn't matter. You might think that ground beef would have the most chance of effecting you since it is a combination of many cows but this doesn't matter. If one cow has mad cow disease then other do too. If a cow gets infected through tained feed then many other cows have it also and were screwed anyway.
Personally i dont stop eating beef becasue of mad cow disease because there are many worse things about eating beef than the possibility of CJD. If you really want to avoid mad cow disease then quit eating. There isn't really anything you can do to avoid the disease so getting worked up wont do any good. This is why we dont talk about it more. The CDC cant come out in a news conferance and give the plan to every house wife about how to protect her family and outline the actions she needs to take. All they know is you either have it or you dont and if you dont then you either will or wont get it. Its out of our control and only they have control. Of course getting worked up and messing with our fickle economy would cause much worse problems than a few people dying of a disease.
They dont fix it right away... They also dont scrap a multi-thousand dollar server because its "down". Many new clustering systems can drop a server or two on the fly without blinking but google would of course have all these problems times 10. Think of the failure rate on some average hardware. Now think about how many thousands of peices of that hardware they use AND use all day every day. Now guess how many peices of hardware go bad in a week... probably a few each day.
Once a server goes down they can pull it out and send in the tech's to repair it which is fairly cheap and easy that system must have been hard to setup. Think of configuring thousands of computers to work in a clustered system with all of the requirements that are put on google servers. Although i am sure they used many automated tools to setup their systems i bet if you ask for stories about setting up those servers you could hear about some of the sme usualy hairy problems that goes on with all computers.
What im more worried about is me. I never get spam IM's. I dont post my name and people only get it by talking to me in person and asking. Its not a secret name but there is no point to give it out. Currently there is 85 people on my buddy list and i dont want to give their info away just like i dont want to give mine away. Despite the fact that i am online 24/7/265 (only rebooting for a new kerlen of course:-) ) i dont get junk im's. A lot of people i know do and i cant figure out if its the particular name i have or if its where i post my name that makes me not get spam im's.
I wonder if anyone who has me on THIER buddy list posted it. Many of my "buddies" read slashdot and some might go ahead and send away a list of everyone they talk to online to someone they dont even know. I hope not and i hope that this site isn't just out to get a lit of spam recievers.
If only it was that simple you moron. Mad cow disease is spread through fish too. Want to stop eating fish? You would be surprised what has fish in it that you dont think about. There are many ways for it to be spread, its called mad cow becuase the media got some nice clips of cows twitching and dying but the disease really just comes from sheep.
Ok your are EXTREMELY far off. You may be a banker but you seem to not have experiance with technical situations. A company like google could end up spendind a million dollars on one person. Remember that to run an entire building is expensive. They have to pay all the people who many of which are expensive techs. Each server probably has thousands of dollars of equipment between the multiple procs and hig performance hard drives. The computers had to be setup of course which im sure costed a bundle as that would be no small task. Maintenance of the equipment would be a bitch. I doubt anyone could do what google has done with less than $100 million.
Your saying that if you use your brain you can avoid CJD? What about the fact it cant be tested for and even though the govt. claims in not here there are people who have died of it in the US.
I dont think thats true. People hear that he wrote the best english literature ever but most people dont know why. Shakespeare is more complex than i can even realize, every time i look harder into it i see another hidden goody. Honestly i dont know anyone who fully understands Shakespeare and that is part of what makes it so much fun to read.

Did you mean to use the term "scarcity"? If your going to pretend to know what your talking about maybe you should really know.

I dont mena to sound overly suspishous (sp) but why is that a link to x.com? Shouldn't it be alink to a paypal.com site?

At least im honest. I mean it concerns me that people would give away thweir buddy lists but i dont care untill someone gives them my name.

Most companies intentionly gouge on the replacable parts. HP gets over half of its profit from, get this, paper and ink.
I tend to see 69 all over the place. Does that mean im a pervert or do the hairy palms already give it away.
