Actually most Americans aren't christain. The biggest group of on religion is Christain but they are less than 50%. The thing about it this is that our culture and govt. are very christain like so people assume are are christain.
Your right that it will give you drive and ambition. It will make you very quickly realize you should be telling people what to do not be told what to do for the rest of your life. Youll figure out that your going to hafta work some stuff out if you wanna do anything with your life.
Well if you really want to get involved in geek stuff join the air force. The view is better than from trenches in jungles up in the air. It is also much more technical and they are willing to let you play with some BAD ASS toys. But remember it IS the military and although its probably better than the army you still are signing away much of the freedoms we love to rant and rave about here on slashdot.
A Peoples History of The United States is an awsome book. Read it and youll love it. I loves reading it on my won and just a month ago it was assigned as a textbook in my high school. Well this is a tought issue. There is nothing inherantly wrong with the military helping police the nation in certain situations. I disagree with the military helping enforce our laws (and thankfully so do the foudning fathers) but its not always bad. There ARE situations where martial law can help. In a situation where public safety to a majority of people is at risk its ok. Like if there actually was a major outbreak or terrorism (im talking major like we are unlikely to see) i would not have a problem temporarily living under martial law.
The problem here is that i dont believe public safety is at risk. Sure people are dying but really not many. The bigger problem is that the news is all over this and it keeps the shooter going. People have been canceling trips to the area and people in the area have been running from their car doors into stores as if it will help them. A person is more likely to die in a plane crash on the way there than the be shot while there, and if they are driving in a car jesus thats insanly more likely to result in injury or death than a sniper.
The military is only getting olvolved to calm peple down and give them a false sense of security. With less effort is spent on tracking this guy down we could just let him go about his business and work on the countless other violent crimes. It sounds cold and i dont condone leaving this guy alone but its something to put the hysteria in perspective.
So really its the media that needs to do the most to help the situation. Even we can help by not talking about this. Im not talking abotu hushing up like it didn't happen, im simply advising that people dont amke this into something to gossip about and create mroe fear.
It isn't really a theory yet. Its more an idea floating around. Some theories incorporate this idea but its not independant yet. What your taling about goes like this. An elementary particle is classified but its spin, charge, and some other propoties. A black hole can be classified the same way. As people have studied black holes they seem more and more to be like an elementary particle but nobody claims they are one yet. So really its possible that they are but we dont know nearly enough about black holes to be classifying them as particles.

Maybe you need a better system. With DDR333 encodes can be done VERY fast not to mention if your using rambus pc-1066. NMemory bandwidth is a huge deal with encoding and finally current machines are able to catch up. I have seen compressions of a regular 90 mins video to a one disc divx in under an hour. Although it maybe not be the best encode that does not make the feat insignificant.

I live in Bainbridge Island, WA. It's (not so) slowley becoming a suburb of seattle. It has always been a rural island in the Puget Sound but its attracting more and more corporate workers (yes including many MS techies). Its kind of sad but there isn't uch that can be done. Some time in the 70's, dont remember the exact year McDonalds tried to move in. The people fought and lost only compromising that McDonalds would no longer use Styrofoam and there would be NO arches on the Island. McDonalds moved in and quickly the Island passed a no-chain-resuraunt ordanance.
McDonals has stuck around but i dont think it has really affected the business as there are no other "burger joints" around.
We are blissfully living (almost) chain-food-store free for many years but everyone has always known Starbucks wants in. There are several (at least 4 coffee-bagel-bakery shops on the island which all get good business. Starbucks tried to open up a franchise usit inside the supermarket finding a loophole around our ordinance but after immediate and very vocal threats of boycotting the supermarket ANd starbucks they backed off.
The moral of the story is that you CAN keep these places out fo your home town.Get involved and you woudl be surprised how many other people who dont like standardized-food as much as you do. It is VERY possible to fight this off at a local level when you can meet with the city-counsel or the mayor.
I disagree. Now people are encoding to divx in better than real time on some machines so i dont think its a problem to take 8 hours to encode a movie. I remember when i did 20 hour encodes back in the day. Its really not a big deal.
How often do your games "jsut work" in windows. You have to at least make sure your video card is setup right with all teh drivers. I bet thats your problem. What kind of system are you running?
No its no winex. Its a kernel problem which they dont have control over. If they code their own kernel module for Winex it might be able to be fixed but thats too much work. Honestly 50 fps is fine and its only some games anyway.
What your saying isn't true at all. I haven't downloaded winex 2.2 yet but when i do i hope for good things but im only gonig to be able to tell about 2.1. Sometimes linux ports/emus run faster and even more stable. You get the added benefits of linux on all your games. Trust me its nice being about to go from half-life to productivity in under 3 seconds.
Because i only know a little abotu sodium can you explain what a Type 4 fire extingusher is? I assume it uses some type of oil to suppress fire but where COULD you get one of these?
I saw a science teacher at the middle school do this when i went there. He was also fond of displaying how any powder if ground fine enough will burn or explode. Like blowing a cloud of fine dust into a flame and having it explode.
Back to the sodium. Sodium reacts with water very easily. Its a silver metal but just by the water in the air it turns a purplish color. This is the metal rusitng before your eyes.
This sciene teacher put a chunk about as big as a shugar cube in water it kind of reacts and looks likeit boiling untill he threw a rock in the bucket. It make a huge "BOOM" and threw water around. He had us get very far away first.
The funny thing baout sodium is because reaction with almost anything makes it burn its hard to store. Oddly enough karasin will not react with it so this teacher had a chunk as big as a small loaf of bread in a karasin filled jar.

Your right and I agree with you but downloading by ftp CAN actually be more of a bandwidth hog. I downloaded the ISO's to mandrake 9.0 because i plan on installing it on many computers and maybe more than once on a single computer. Usually i mess something up on an install and its nic to be able to restart.

Sodium wont explode in humid air but it will burn... it makes it hard to put out too when adding water makes it EXPLODE.

The drill isn't the only thing sending data. They are trying to scan and map underground so that they cna steer the drill.
