the only problem is, for the brief instant it was within the event horizon almost all of eternity would pass outside it, so we would most likely get the results a bit late:(
I'm sorry but, as a geneticist I have to point out that you are SO wrong. Red hair has been identified as originating in 4 different mutations roughly 50,000 years old in a protein receptor all people have. The mutations all probably originated in the British isles. If you are heterozygous dominant or homozygous dominant for the mutant gene you will probably be a redhead. The degree of redness depends on which mutant variation you have, and a few other genes responsible for hair pigmentation in all people redheaded or not. It is therefore a dominant trait.
Its actually a question of pedigree. BSDs (and therefore NEXTSTEP and MacOSX) are directly descended from the original UNIX source code before it was made proprietary in the 70s. Linux was written to be like UNIX but was a work from scratch. Lots of the GNU utilities are based on direct source code that has been donated though, so large portions of a GNU/Linux system (please don't hit me!) are infact UNIX and not UNIX-like as far as I can tell.
true, GNU contains the word UNIX, but do you remember what the N stands for? I would hardly call that a tip of the hat, saying that this OS is NOT UNIX.
I have to point out that bluetooth is not a high-speed interface, and probably ill-suited to this sort of application. I would rather see an 802.11 enabled network drive - would be faster and have a better range. If i need to plunk it down beside the laptop anyhow why not just connect the firewire or usb2.0 port and get 100x the throughput?
I hate that whole "put the seat down" thing. Who ever decided that "down" is the ideal or correct state for a toilet seat to be in anyhow? I say we throw off the shackles of oppression and shout "I said leave the toilet seat UP, bitch!"
Right, so somehow by accident an entire generation of people genetically predisposed to slacking off and complaining were given birth to at approximately the same time. There is no problem, its all in our collective imagination. We are just on average lazier and stupider than our parents(well, if you ignore the fact that we are the most highly educated generation in history).
I just meant if package management is an issue gentoo is a good compromise. Read in context of the parent post. I myself used gentoo previously but became an even bigger control freak and actually switched to LFS recently.
Dude how are you going to install an OS without an OS? explain please how you will boot up a machine with nothing on it and proceed to download and install packages without a compiler, terminal, shell prompt etc.
Here is a hint for you though: download an iso linux distro (one that boots off cd) and build using that. or install redhat on a second hard drive that you can remove after you are finished.

As a compromise, use gentoo linux. It still gives lots of control to the build and upgrades are a cinch.
That definition of a species is problematic because there ARE many exceptions. For example, finches in the galapagos come in many different distinct species identified by their distinctive beaks and the foods they are adapted to eat. However the species can and do interbreed often and share the same habitat. The offspring are fertile, however they are not terribly successfull since their beaks are not specialized enough to open any nuts at all, so the species remain distinct. Also that definintion of a species does not account for organisms that reproduce asexually - for instance bacteria exist in species even though they reproduce by simply cloning themselves. Really all you can say about a species is that it is and remains a more or less genetically distinct pool of dna, evolving without genes being introduced into the species gene pool.
actually i believe it has to do with how macOS 9 and below keep data in 2 places - a data fork and a resource fork. Things you download have to keep both intact so they either need to be zipped, macbinary'd or whatever.
Just like any network adapter in XP, you can select/deselect TCP/IP, NETBIOS etc. from each adapter independently. Since the only thing I use my firewire for is my Nomad Jukebox (which uses proprietary communication protocols) i just unchecked everything for that adapter. In TCP/IP settings you can specify addresses or use DHCP.
40 atmospheres of greenhouse enducing carbon dioxide, owch! In order to cool it down we would have to either a) convert the C02 to a thick layer of elemental carbon (ie charcoal) and about 30 atmospheres of pure oxygen, or b) blow it off the planet entirely. bacteria could do a) for us but then a single spark and the whole planet goes up in flames and things are back to normal. b) is downright impossible without diverting thousands of massive asteroids into the planet in order to blow its atmosphere away. conclusion: mars is easier:)
Ah but, as Janis said, the Santana comeback album cost less than $1M to make and that was an expensive one. Big budget movies cost sometimes hundreds of times more than big-budget albums.
How much do you think editing special features, alternate audio tracks and 3d menus on to a 4-disc plastic multi-hinged package LoTR dvd set costs in comparison to a simple paper insert/jewel case/cd? The answer is I don't know, but i expect it is close to being the same.
And why are movie soundtracks so expensive then? they should be way cheaper than the dvds AND regular cds that have not recouped costs in theatres. Soundtracks are obviously just another cash grab but man do they grab it!
Same here, second (replacement) 75gxp just failed - i phoned thier rma dept. and demanded an advance rma and a different model this time, to which they responded no on both counts. Do they really expect me to install another 75gxp in this system after waiting another month for the RMA to ship? good lord! No more IBM for me, thats for sure.
I don't think by using the mysql-specific functions I am shooting myself in the foot. in fact, they are significantly faster and since i have no intention of switching DBs or porting to other machines, that is clearly the way to go.
No i just ment you don't need to list a PERSONAL email, just an admin@ address. I dont think you have to fill out the physical address, thats optional AFAIK.
They can suck it up. The WHOIS is there for a reason - you don't need to list a personal email address there but you should be obligated to have a contact address of some sort.
actually the "northbridge" on clawhammer chipsets is basically just an AGP controller. I thus doubt it would need active cooling.

Also its dead sexy!
My first though when I saw this headline was "that explains the screaming." *Sigh* I will never date a non-redhead again :)
just set up a CNAME alias of www then so it points to brainyblondes.com. or whatever. sheesh its not that complex. Bloody airhead blondes...

im sorry to nitpick, but 5-10 cents on a $1 cost is a 5,000 to 10,000% markup :)

Word up, I hate that Gibson dude. "your internet connection is STEALTH!!!" my ass.
Nah, in Windows XP at least the firewire port on my soundblaster audigy automatically showed up in network connections with tcp/ip enabled. nothing proprietary. And lots of devices use that feature, like digital video cameras that can wire pictures directly to a firewire-enabled printer without the use of an intermediary PC.
