    Bomb disposal units have used devices like this for quite some time.

    One of the funniest T-shirts I've seen is printed on the back. It said:

    "I am a bomb technician. If you see me running, try to keep up"

    With diminishing returns because people don't want to pay a $50 cel phone bill, they are building-in features that you don't need but are forced to pay for.

    I challenge anyone to provide an example of a basic cel phone.

    This was modded as funny, but if your 401K isn't up to snuff, retiring down south where the dollar goes further is not exactly a bad idea.

    Then again, once the Mexicans realizes that rich, fat, old (possibly less succesful) Americans are coming, the real estate prices will quintuple. Or will they?

    Some cultures are less-based on hype and are welcoming.

    It sure brings me to a realization of just how far we have come from slogging about in mud and eating rats like we did in the dark ages.

    It only takes a few days in complete, freezing electrical darkness to realize how dependent and utterly helpless big cities can be (and therefore its citizens) without technology.

    Luckily in 1998 there were lots of people less troubled to help us out, and people mobilized from everywhere possible.

    In The Jaunt people can teleport between different locations, but they have to be put to sleep first, otherwise something very bad happens

    That sounds familiar to me as well. Then there was the M&M (or was it Skittles or Smarties) demonstration of weightlessness.

    One thing we *don't* want to do is discourage kids from studying engineering.

    I seem to keep repeating myself on this point, maybe I'll eventually get over the obsession.

    he commented that maintaining the Zero-G profile was accomplished not by using the sensitive G-Meter, but by hanging a nut from a string in the cockpit ... if it drops, push forward, if it raises, pull back - simple but effective.

    My, how far we have come. Nows it's all about thrust-vectoring, F-16 style fly by wire and HUDs. The original test pilots were literally flying by the seat of their pants.

    I wonder why larger planes aren't being used for this type of work.

    Actually, put your idea to paper and have it notarized. That way you formally create prior art, and if you ever figure out a way to commercialize the idea, you won't be restricted by potential later patents.

    I'm sure that works in fantasyland but the real world is a bit more complicated.

    Assuming that BigCorp Inc. steals your idea and it is a runaway success, do you have the money, time and persistence to follow through to winning a legal case?

    Probably not.

    We do need to take environmental research seriously, debunk the bad research, and heed the good research.

    But if the "weeded-out" bad research demonstrates that the global warming fears are unfounded, will the alarmists go away? Nope.

    The only solution to this problem is to take off in all directions at once and spend trillions on dubious fixes.

    Whether it's javascript or java the point is that if someone has java and javascript disabled thinking they are more secure there are ways that even with plain html, spoofing can occur

    But Java is a fairly hefty program download as compared to JavaScript, which is built into most popular browsers.

    That's a big difference as far as I can see.

    Unless the URI is obscenely long as is often seen with many dynamically-rendered sites.
