  7. Re:The technical issue is NOT about modular design on Professor Testifies Windows Is Modular, Separable · · Score: 1

The reason this issue has come up is that the states want Microsoft to sell a version of Windows without IE (media player, etc.) at a cheaper price. If the only thing that is removed is the front-end, the price wouldn't go down significantly. Additionally, there would still need to be a front-end in order to use things like the control panel, so these features would not work until a front-end was installed. Now imagine something is wrong with Netscape, and causes the computer to crash every time the control panel is used. The user will blame Microsoft, yet the problem lies in an external product.

  13. Re:Not a mutation on Thumbs Are the New Fingers for GameBoy Youth · · Score: 1, Insightful

According to dictionary.com mutation is "An alteration or change, as in nature, form, or quality." This is exactly what the article is talking about: a change in the physical nature of the thumb or, in other words, a physical mutation. Now there is also a distinct meaning of mutation when it comes to genetics, but that is not the meaning that they are using.

  15. Environmentalists Argument on Larsen Ice Shelf Collapses · · Score: 1

Let's apply the Environmentalist's argument to another situation. Facts: Recently, the tolerance for homosexuality in various countries has increased dramatically. In the same period, the population growth in these countries has begun to drop, and in many of them is now negative. Conjectures: If population growth continues to drop, then the human race will eventually die out. Since homosexuality results in decreased sex drive, and homosexual tolerance and negative population growth have a positive correlation, there is a possibility that homosexuality will cause the human race to become extinct. Extinction is obviously a huge problem, so even if the probability of homosexuality causing it is small, we still must do everything possible to stop homosexuality. Solution: Make being a homosexual a capital offence. Hey, if the argument works with one situation, it should work with a similar one, right?
