Giving more money to the poor just means more poor. We pay them to breed so they have baby after baby because that way they make more money. We need to pay them to be sterilized. A free place to stay, new car every five years and free food and some spending cash the rest of their lives in return for getting fixed. It'd be cheaper than the crazy shit we do now.
Some people can take a drug like heroin a few times and then leave it. Some take it a few times and can't do without it. This is fact. Alcohol can be seriously addictive as well while some may only drink socially. Every case is different and different drugs affect different people in different ways. At one time opium was legal in the US. It was banned due to serious problems with it's abuse. Alcohol was at one time banned as well but it proved too popular to ban. If people don't like a law they don't obey it and all prohibition did was cause organized crime to flourish. It's the same with all drugs, if people want to do them then the market will serve them. I'm all for legalizing the recreational use of drugs for adults with some limitations but then I am a Libertarian who feels that people are and should be responsible for themselves. When they fuck their lives up with these drugs they should entirely bear the burden of their choices. Failing that then no.
I'd just like to see the punishment fit the crime. 4 years for stealing 120 bucks worth of pot with a BB gun is fucking stupid. If he stole 50 grand worth of pot with an Uzi I guess he'd get lethal injection. Sheesh!
6 months probation is about right for what he did anyway. I can't believe they're clogging prisons with petty criminals like this then turning violent criminals out because of over crowding. A BB gun as a deadly weapon? They're turning the legal system into a farce with that kind of bullshit.

If you are smart you can feed a family of four for at least 5 days on 30 bucks. Food is a necessity, cable tv is mindless drivel. Mind you I occasionally watch tv but not at the expense of anything I need. A Tracphone is a good bargain. If you don't blab all the time you can get by for months on a 20 dollar card. And if you're working 3 jobs you damn sure don't have time for a lot of entertainment. I remember sitting around playing card and board games with the kids in the evenings and it was fun. We didn't know how miserable we were.:)
For home use a 5 or 6 year old laptop with a 2ghz or better core2duo processor can be had for around 100 dollars or less. These are more than sufficient for any educational needs. I've seen off lease Dell D630's for $100 and that's better than a brand new chromebook to me.

I remember hard times when I rolled pennies and cashed in aluminum cans to get gas money but I never had to worry about Cheerios. Steak and such was beyond my means but basic food for subsistence is pretty cheap. Pasta, rice, beans and cereal make it possible to get by even if it's not that great. What amazes me is how I see people complain about no money and they actually have internet and cable tv. I had a 12" black and white set with rabbit ears for an antenna. Four channels and that was three too many. My wife was bitching about only being able to DVR two shows at one time the other day and I was kind of like WTF! How times change. I lack a college degree but I live pretty well on 60k a year. My son makes about 26K and with 3 kids he does pretty well. They aren't missing any meals but he doesn't waste any money on bullshit like cable tv. Cheerios?
I agree with the Pi for education. This continuous drivel about Apple being for snobs though is silly. Apple is for people who are tired of the broken, crippled windows pc world. I know plenty of working class people using Apple systems because they got tired of dealing with the pc bullshit. No one likes to pay the toll to use Apple computers but eventually, if you don't have the drive to learn to use linux that's where a lot of people end up.
