Actually it's not quite that simple. A 1% majority is hardly a mandate. You can push people so far but it would be impossible to force on the 49% anything they absolutely don't want to live with. The violence would destroy everything the 51% had and they might even lose considering the 49% might be more innovative and intelligent.
These last few years open source software seems to be taking several seconds backwards. At one time the goal was world domination, now it's apparently windows emulation.
There ya go again, confusing the issue with facts. Can't we just agree that mean ole mister white man is the source of all evil in this world? If only us wicked white american males were gone the world would be all at peace with love and harmony everywhere.
What's the ecological damage of mining nuclear fuel and building huge reactors and cooling towers? I don't oppose nuclear power but don't pretend it doesn't have problems. I don't understand why every time somebody builds a solar power system people crawl out from under rocks everywhere to attack it. Sure, solar power isn't a panacea but then nothing really is. All energy production comes at a cost both economical and ecological.
It has the advantage of not having to worry about where to store radioactive waste. Not to mention no meltdowns or radioactive leaks. So it's only half a Nuke plants output? Build two.
"XGA, the Extended Graphics Array, is an IBM display standard introduced in 1990. Later it became the most common appellation of the 1024x768 pixels display resolution, but the official definition is broader than that. It was not a new and improved replacement for Super VGA, but rather became one particular subset of the broad range of capabilities covered under the "Super VGA" umbrella."
I think you lost sight of the context of this thread. The comment I was originally referring to was the attack on the police and how they're "out to get us." The comment I then made was a sarcastic one about maybe we could just get rid of the police and fall back on the wild west style of justice. No, I'm not paranoid and don't tote a gun everywhere I go. I do wear one when I go to downtown Atlanta because it's unsavory to say the least. Most of the time I never go anywhere I feel the need to carry. Fortunately we do still have a majority of police that are out there performing their job of keeping the public safe. I think the incessant hatred of the police on this forum is misguided and foolish. There are bad apples but most police officers go to work every day to provide law enforcement for the public so we don't end up dispensing justice from the barrel of a gun.
The problem is that a lot of people have no faith in the state to perform this project. That's because they have a track record of graft and corruption when running these big money projects. Unfortunately nowadays no one is held responsible when government projects run 5 to 10 times over budget. Given a solution where there are actual consequences for incompetence, graft and corruption I think the support for this kind of project would increase by a large amount.
If all they waste money on is "fat" wages they'll be way lucky. I'd bet there are a lot of contractors who've made big political donations that will siphon off the biggest rewards.
I don't know that it's entirely a scam. Any big budget state project is going to have it's share of graft and corruption. That much money brings out all the greedy fuckers. They need to put someone in charge of the money who will make a real attempt to prosecute every single person who attempts to gouge the taxpayers.
Maybe we could just take them all off the street and let everyone wear a gun and handle their own justice? Wonder how that would work out? I know already anytime I have to take a trip to Atlanta to visit Emory University Hospital Midtown that I pack heat. It's gotten to the point that it's not paranoia anymore, they really are out to get you. It's not the fucking police I'm worried about either. They're the lightweights.
I can't say what it's like everywhere but I live in a fairly rural area and have 20Mbps that works at least to that level 95% of the time. It costs me 80 dollars a month but at least it is very reliable and always fast. The US has a population density of around 35 people per square kilometer while Germany and the UK have over 200 people per square kilometer. High speed averages are harder to achieve when you have people spread out. Of course a lot of it is the way we handle internet providers. In this day and age they should be treated as public utilities but they'll fight that tooth and nail.
It depends on who manufactures them. I've seen some with 5/8" sheet rock and hardwood flooring built like a house but with axles. So many people died in them back in the 60's and 70's that states started making stringent regulations for their construction. It reminds me of a joke we used to tell back in high school. "Did you hear about the Alabama state capitol building catching fire last night?" "No! What happened?" "It burned all the way to the axles!"

Damn, steps not seconds. Argh!
I'd get ecstatic about a 2X breakthrough. That would be fucking fantastic.

I've always wondered. If a couple in Alabama get a divorce, are they still brother and sister?

Hacksaw blades? For crying out loud, what century is this again?

You are correct. I meant XGA.

1024x600 is a long way below even 1449x900. I mean, it's not even SVGA.

It's for the millions of people on the no-fly list.

Don't you get it? The kooks already have guns. The ones that don't have knives.

Japan came back pretty good.

Hell, it works for the FBI.
Of course it was. It's so common it's unremarkable.
They were our nukes. It's not cool to drop nukes on a country you're not at war with.
They just have to learn to love grits. After that, it's all good. Roll Tide!
