  1. Will never again buy Samsung on Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab Won't Get Android 4.0 · · Score: 5, Insightful

I just ditched my Epic 4G for an iPhone for this exact reason. I was able to root my Epic and put 4.0 on it myself just fine but Samsung refuses to push out software themselves. I will never again buy another Samsung product (I know Apple uses their parts, doesn't matter).

At least my iPhone will get some friggin updates from time to time and not come pre-loaded with CIQ. I was a diehard Android fan but the fragmentation and piss poor support of the handset developers has pushed me over to Apple. Enough is enough with this shit.

Google, Samsung, HTC, Motorola have all fucked their customers enough at this point that I can't imagine a situation in which I would ever hand over my money for one of their products again.

Siri processing is done server side. There have already been hacks released that let Siri run on older devices, from iPhone 3GS to iPad 1. Apple quickly put an end to that. There is no technical reason why Siri can't run on older devices. Apple chooses not to do it.

It's easier to make a living as a Navy SEAL or Olympic gymnast right now that it is as a writer. There are only some 300 full time authors out there, these are people who do nothing but write novels for a living with no side jobs, teaching jobs etc. Writers get shafted on what they earn. Unless you are JK Rowling or Stephen King of course.

The publishers take it all. Every penny. It's far worse in the publishing world than in the music world. At least a musician can make money playing venues.

Carter wanted to eliminate every single one of our nukes without even having a plan from Russia as to their disarmament. He still wants this. Grow up? You're in fantasy land where communists are nice people, just misunderstood. Never mind the hundred + million they've killed since the 1920's.

The above spending is just to create new nukes. It's to replace older aging ones, as well as create more accurate ones to minimize civilian casualties. It's about bunker busters and targeting systems, upkeep and maintenance.

The only fear monger is you "Oh God we're all gonna die!" Guess what, being well armed is the best means to keep your country safe. Responsible adults know this which is why Jimmy Carter lost in 1980 by epic proportions. But by all means, keep the juvenile fantasy alive that everyone in the world is just misunderstood and America is the great evil because we posses tactical nukes in our own defense.

I'd like as much as the next person for nukes to go away entirely, but this Jimmy Carter attitude that the rest of the world is a cute cuddly place is horribly misguided.

Stop Iraq, Libya and Afghan wars. There is your savings and cost reductions. Keep our military strong here at home to DEFEND us.

Blind trust is what fools do. Trust as you put it, is built up over time through verification.

Point taken, but I think that you're looking at the little picture and not the big one. Viruses have been evolving with us for millions of years (ok hundreds of thousands in our case). While a "curve ball" as you say is possible, it's also very unlikely. The last major curve ball was probably the "black plague" which put a big dent in society but was also highly treatable, only our ignorance kept us from treating it properly. We're much better about these things now.

You could say that AIDs was a curve ball. It's certainly killed enough people. We didn't handle it well in the beginning and as a result we're now seeing many people die from it which could have been avoided. But AIDS taught us a great deal. Combating these illnesses isn't just about the immune system. We have tools a simple virus can never have; intelligence.

The airborne Ebola is interesting though. I am by no means an expert on the subject but it fascinates me. Microscopic killers are always an interesting study.

We call them new because they are new mutations, not because God suddenly said "Let there be Virii!" Even species jumping virii have to do battle with our "pre-primed" immune system because there is very little it hasn't seen before, in one form or another. You act as if our bodies have never come into contact with virii from other species before.

How would this be different than say, avian or swine flu? Somehow because it comes from an ape suddenly we're all doomed? Grow up.
