the second CPU will (obviously) be warmer than the first one
I also have no idea what I am talking about but I don't think the second one will be warmer. The water will continue to absorb the heat of the processors, actually the aluminum sink, until it has reached equilibrium with the aluminum. As the water is cooled by the radiator and the fans it will never reach this temperature. This is also true of a set of cylinders in a car. the second, third and so on are not hotter than the first. The procesors will disspate heat at whatever rate the aluminum can absorb it. Same for the aluminum to the water. Everything is cooled at the same rate. the water will just be hotter when it reaches the radiator.
I know it is what they want. But 78 million to get them off your back. IBM will spend 78 million printing out the documentation that SCO is asking for. Might as well put it to better use.
by spending more than $US100 million in Unix licence fees Sun has the broadest rights of any of SCO's Unix licensees
They have paid $100 million over the years to a company that has a market cap of $78 million (market close yesterday). $78 Million! IBM (Not sun) probably spent that on toilet seat covers last year. How is it that a company that could be wiped out (yes I get the irony of wiping andthe toilet seat cover) of existence for $30-40 million is bringing in $100 million in fees from sun and causing lawsuit problems for IBM. I realize that for IBM it is giving SCO just what they want as far as paying them off, but why not have Sun, IBM, Red Hat, SuSe and whoever else is pissed at SCO get together and spend 78 million and buy the bastards? Then open up the source to the world and laugh at what a dumbass Darl was.
Seeing as how DirecTV is the biggest customer of TiVo products and a huge source for TiVo revenue off subscriptions is it insider trading for DirecTV to one day up and decide to sell millions of shares of TiVo stock without fully discolsing why they did it. I mean they say it is just to liquidate some assets. But really it is likely not the reason at all. They definately have access to privelaged info and are using it to their gain here. Somehow I can't see them selling TiVo stock if they were going to double the number of units they license software for!
Now the hacker has to figure out which version of the firmware one is running in order to crack the password. And they can't figure that out without logging in. So everyone is safe now.
Yeah kinda...but mostly I was saying that it's not the Indians that are stupid. it's their AMERICAN Counterparts. We are still holding on to the idea that we are worth more.
Everything you said is correct. (Sort of). But let's not kid ourselves here. SWT is a deliberate attempt by IBM to fragment the Java community. IBM did not releae SWT out of the goodness of their heart. They did it because they saw an opportunity to profit. IBM wanted a platform to release applications from and Microsoft was not an option. Java was an obvious choice because of WebSphere. Swing was a piece of junk, so they created SWT, fast, pretty and stable(A foriegn concept for java on the desktop). This had the added advantage of not being owned by Sun. IBM can develop apps that do not use any sun tech now. And they do not have a standards body controlling SWT (MS.Net anyone?). So sun sees that Swing is crap. They need an alternative for their desktop developers or they will get left in the dust with Java Desktop. What else can they do but create this JDesktop stuff? What do we have now? SWT/IBM desktop, JDesktop/Sun, Windows J++/MFC Desktop, and then The standard Swing desktop. Java not fragmented? That's 4 different desktops. Not including AWT. You are right you do not have to choose to use either of these API extensions. You can just use Swing. But the minute you wake up and realize your UI'ssuck you will have to pick one or the other for your app. Then you are locked into either the Java desktop or SWT. Neither of which is standards based. FRAGMENTATION!
For a company that claims it doesn't want ot see java splintered by open source Sun sure is trying to make things complicated. First they have awt, then swing, then IBM jumps in with SWT, ok fine IBM evolves the Java Desktop and it looks pretty good. See eclipse But now Sun releases another API for the desktop that, while different in purpose, is not compatible with SWT. Great. not to mention the fact that it uses GNOME (a.k.a..NET-Just wait). How does this help make Java a more unified platform?
At first I was an oponnent of OSS Java, but now I'm not so sure. I am thinking anything is better than Java in the hands of Sun. Will someone please give Java to Apple.
First of all I am a huge apple fanboy. Second I own a similar device from Linksys. Minus the print features. It is my observation that nobody has succeeded in creating a product that does what the market wants yet. I am only pointing out that compared to Apple's other products this one is not at all impressive. I expect apple in most cases to create the perfect product. Like the iPod, The Macintosh, OSX. My standards for apple prods are very high. I am dissapointed at this as it is not an impressive device.
This is pathetic. $129 for this. Come on. For 250 you get a hard drive and an interface. All this does is get a signal from your computer. It doesn't even have a way to change the song remotely. Stupid! I expect MUCH better from Apple. This with a wireless remote that resembles an iPod would be awesome. But since there is no remote. It sucks.
You are missing my point. Writing code is SOOO simple. Designing a good system is VERY difficult. The thing is that if you are the guy who takes your instructions from the guy who designed the complicated system all you have to know how to do is read his instructions and rewrite them in computer language. Now working in an environment where you are doing the design because "that guy" isn't there is a whole different story. Of course you should rethink why you are writing all this code if you could just send your spec to india for 15k/yr and free up your brain to do some creative work.
Yeah...that doen't have a lot to do with a PHD discussion so much...but I would have to agree. There is this common misconception among people (especially non-technical ones) that coding requires a great amount of skill to do. The truth is that it doesn't. This is evidenced by its tendency to be outsourced.
Coding takes time and a little know how, but as you can see from the 2 billion "best practices/patterns" books published last year (and every subsequent year) it is all about regurgitating someone else's idea into a machine understandable format. Coding is not a problem solving job. Its taking other people's solutions and telling a machine how to implement them.
Yeah...but Google doesn't need programmers. They need brains. Sure it is easy to write code and do it well without a degree in Computer Science. But to create an algorithm that effeciently searches millions if not billions of pages and returns the most relavent thing throughout the ENTIRE Internet is a little daunting and takes someone who has had some advanced training.
Didn't apple deny a rumor about McDonalds using their site around the time they signed the pepsi deal? Interesting. I guess McDonalds really was shopping for a music service promo. Too bad, it would have been cool to get iTunes on your BigMac (Sorry that was bad but had to be said)

It goes to their creditors. But definately not their investors.

Hey it happens to all of us sometimes
Yeah that was a joke!
Now the hacker has to figure out which version of the firmware one is running in order to crack the password. And they can't figure that out without logging in. So everyone is safe now.
:-)
The Y2K bug caused SARS...I thought it was from birds. I didn't really read those stories either.
Another story about how insecure your passwords are. Is it possible that writers like to oversensationalize things and make us afraid?
They wouldn't really do that would they?
Disclaimer: I didn't RTFA because I know it will be dumb!
Yeah kinda...but mostly I was saying that it's not the Indians that are stupid. it's their AMERICAN Counterparts. We are still holding on to the idea that we are worth more.
And we most definately are not!
Man if getting an LED screen gets you free porn and a bigger penis...I want one.

I'm saying that all of these devices have failed ot meet mainstream acceptance
This remote you speak of would sell me on the thing!
>10,000...I'll put $5 on it.
Err...Less than 10000. Whatever!

They aren't my enemy. I am not a code monkey. I design and think for a living. Skippy!
