Though thought to be a retirement, Torvalds is making the move take the heat off of his new position at Microsoft Corp. as Bill Gates' Assistant Jr. Executive bitch. More as it develops...
I am an avid fan of both music and movies. Even though it is not as common as it used to be, I buy my media legitimately, and there is nothing that would make me more mad than getting it home and finding out that something didn't work with it. The studios and record companies should face it, pirates will always find a way around the protection, so by putting up barriers like they have lately, they are curbing what the legitimate users can do, and the pirates still roam free. For once in quite a while my thumbs point the same way as Ol' eggbert's.
"sometimes you just need a movie that's about kicking ass..."
And that is exactly what the blade movies are about. If you go in expecting a deep, well explained plot, you are going to be disappointed. On the other hand, if you go to see a movie for the pure action and fun of it, Blade II is worth the time and money.
It's a dream come true for everybody who tries to manipulate the lives of others who would be perfectly fine on their own.
I just hope that this means that they either learn that they can't even keep a fake relationship together, so maybe they should leave the real ones alone.
compared this to a franchise situation? Of course Microsoft is going to throw their weight around...
Consider the OEM to be a McDonald's franchise owner. McDonald's, for the franchise fee, is giving them advertising, a well known name, customer base, etc. and rightly expects them to use the standard McDonald's menu. Different locations have their own special items (comparable to other preloaded software) but if they deviate too much, their franchise rights (OEM license) could be could be revoked. Why shouldn't Microsoft be able to do the same thing?
The ban on all arcade games in greece is only a knee-jerk reaction because of a large number of arcade owners (750 in the last 2 months) have been arrested for having machines pay out money. Since gambling is illegal outside of casinos there, this is a way to curb illegal gambling. Gaming for entertainment will undoubtedly be allowed after owners get the idea that illegal activity will not be allowed.
"The problem," said Dimitris Batzelis, secretary general of Greece's Financial Crime Bureau, "isn't enforcing the gaming ban. It's clarifying what the ban will in fact ban."
They say specifically that there is no final word on what is banned. No need to worry, travellers will still have their pac-man!
The beauty behind consoles is that when programmers make games for them they can optimize the graphics and gameplay to get the best possible experience for the game. Using java on top of their built in functions would dramatically slow down gameplay, quality, etc. If they go this route, I will truly have a reason never to own another new console.
