This is not the first time they accidentally aired porn on a regular channel in Tucson. I seriously doubt it was a malicious act like they claim. Their screwing up on the superbowl made it the huge story.
Police departments routinely clock the wrong person due to the use of old fashioned radar rather than more specific laser radar. They wrongly think that because they are aiming it like a gun it is getting a specific person. It is sad that we have to go to an Orwellian extreme to fight such flawed evidence is regular Ka radar.
Vinyl usually does sound better. The CD format itself has a number of really ridiculous compromises in the modern era such as simple 16-bit pcm encoding with a low 44.1 khz sampling rate (barely over the Nyquist rate). The Nyquist rate of 2 samples / hz is under ideal DAC and ADC. DACs and ADCs are some of the cheapest components used and not anywhere near ideal. CDs are usually poorly mastered. I was shocked when I realized that well encoded lossy MP3s sound better than a portable cd player because of these reasons (better ADC and amplifier usually). Almost anyone can tell that the average DVD sounds better than an audio cd. The music industry did respond with SACD and DVD-audio, but most people don't care about sound quality that much, and they have failed. Those two sound great and generally better than vinyl. I like hybrid SACD best as the future format, but who knows.
This has to be a new low for Slashdot. Al Gore actually did to a lot for the Internet, and he never claimed to "invent" it. Whoever posted this needs to stop watching Fox News occassionally and use his brain.
I don't quite understand the First World vs. Second World grouping that is always mentioned.
When I look at these results I see three tiers. One shows highly community oriented societies with a strong emphasis on helping each other. Hence Japan and Canada both score well. The second type is the US style Laissez-Faire capitalistic system, which is responsible for a sharp distinction between high and low income citizens, but not a compltely insurmountable barrier. The last is the almost middle age style societies with an insurmountable barrier between the upper and under classes.
I hope that the USA does not want to become like the last tier.
I seriously doubt that the quality of life is bad in India. Every country has beautiful areas, and every country has rich people.
Indians go to the west to move up from a comparatively middle class life to a upper class life back in India. They seem like they are very unlikely to settle down in the west.
Everyone is so emotional about this movie. Yes it is biased, but no it is not untruthful. Everything in it was meticulously documented and researched. The main claims are:
1) Bush was appointed by the US Supreme Court (The news paper analysis under Florida's Sunshine Law confirmed this. A full recount of Florida was ordered by the Florida supreme court and blocked by the most partisan member of the US Supreme Court.
2) The Bush administration hated Clinton so much that they avoided even Republican administration members like Richard Clarke who wanted to attack in Afghanistan. Bush wanted to topple Saddam who was a secular leader.
3) Bush and basically everyone in the administration has financial and family ties to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia spreads Wahabbiism to destabilize other oil regions like Afghanistan and Chechnya, leading to terrorism.
4) Bush responded cowardly on 9/11
5) Wars aren't fought by the rich and powerful like Bush
6) War is hell
This movie is a not as thoughtful as "The Fog of War," which makes the same points, but that is what makes it threatening. It puts an emotional and visual image of how bad this administration is. Much like the Abu Ghraib images that are being suppressed now.
Watch this movie before criticizing it. It is actually very conservative unlike "Bowling for Columbine."

Yes, this is not surprising at all. I was somewhat surprised that the Russian Federation didn't do better.
