We had a lab setup with a few games, Doom 2, Descent, and a few others... it cost a buck for a lunch period of gaming. The money was then given to charity AFAIK.
I'm pretty sure the games were pirated, which really isn't that great of a thing for a school to do, so if I were doing it, I'd ask the students to think about donating a game, or play older games, which can be bought pretty cheap.
Still, by having the $1 fee, we did a bit of good for the local foodbank or whichever charity it was the school supported.
