Nope, looks like that got slashdotted off the map too. :)

Hmm, it's about time that legislators actually started thinking when dealing with legislation like this. If they work hard enough, they might even be able to dilude the efforts of RIAA and MPAA enough that they'll get their law, but it will be a law without teeth. Then when they push for bigger legislation we'll be able to stop them cold because we'll have grounds to say "you already have your law. what more do you want?" I see this dilluding of their efforts by congress as a good thing.

  4. Re:3.5" Floppy on Death to the 3.5" Floppy? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Until a solid replacement comes around to take the place of the floppy disk as a general utility disk, it will never die. It might find itself a nominal part, but it will never die. Super disks are ok, but they still require too much to get them running. A floppy is nice because it's supported in the bios and does not need to have any special programs or drivers loaded to make it work. Until another media can match or exceed that ease of use and simplicity of instalation, the floppy will never go away. I nominate flash data sticks. They're easy to use, they hold large amounts of data for their small size, and although they're not within the price range of a floppy, they still can easily be made to operate as simply as a floppy and it would be very simple to implement bios support for them to make them as plug and play simple as a floppy.

  5. Re:Uhh Great But.. on Motorola's i95cl · · Score: 1

Actually from what I've read, the FCC, or some other organization with the power to implement this has started to force the cellular companies to open their networks so that you can actually have any phone you want, not just the ones they're willing to let you have, but rather the ones you want on their networks. Obviously the cellular companies are fighting this with a passion, especially Nextel, but in time (1-2 years) this will be a reality, baring anything unforseen of course.

  6. Video Cellular on Motorola's i95cl · · Score: 1

Actually I like this phone a lot. But I can't wait until they make cell phones with built in two way video conferencing. Then you can see the person you're talking to on your cell phone while you proceed to drive yourself right off the road. :) IF they eventually have two way video capability, business professionals will go nuts grabbing them up. Hmm, I wonder if they'll be any good for playing Unreal by then?

OH my gosh. That would be just insane. But I do admit it would be a great way for a true geek to get his excercise. Just think of it. Your batteries are running low, the storms are raging outside, no power, wireless lan, and everyone's playing Unreal and is so deeply involved that they immediately switch over to their petal power to keep on fragging and next thing you know you're heaving and sweating with the game. Wow, now I have an excuse to excercise and frag at the same time! Now if they could just invent the holodeck, then I could frag in real time. :D

  10. Warp Theory on Road Trip On The Interplanetary Superhighway · · Score: 1

This actually sounds a lot like the theories exhibited in the star trek series about warp travel and how different vessels in warp flight have to adjust their courses to travel between the stars to minimize gravitational distortions affecting their flight path. Personally I think it's a great theory and very logical. Especially since gravity creates friction and drag and those are both bad for travel in space or not.

What? You actually recharge your batteries? Hmm, maybe that's why mine doesn't work anymore. :) Actually, I think PDA's with some sort of wearable HUD system would be cool. They had an advertisement not too long back where a guy had a voice activated wearable PC with eyepiece hud screen system. Now to have that for a PDA would be cool.

Wonderful. Slashdot has sold out to the money men. It's bad enough network television news has bowed the knee to the highest bidder, but now this?? I was kinda hoping that Slashdot was above that. Now I'm not sure if I can trust the articals coming through here as gospel truth. Well hopefully this is only a phase, or I might have to go somewhere else for my untainted tech news. Darn, and I was really starting to like this place.
