"Installation not only on PCs, but also on networked devices such as PlayStation 2, AV devices, and mobile devices"
Great..if this comes with my PS 3, I'm not buying one.
The website of mp3pro mentioned something about reducing the size a mp3pro file takes on your harddisk, compared to a normal mp3 file. In order to reduce the file size, could it be that mp3pro is smaller at 64 kbs, yet has got the quality of a normal mp3 file at 128?
Let another company make a fool of themselves..This move shows absurd arrogance, and will only inflict damage on them. I hope this stuff gives them enough of a bad name to put them out of business. Good riddance.
No doubt I'll read a lot of comments here that also appeared during the last two (or three?) napster stories..How much more topics is this whole Napsterstuff gonna take?
I doubt anyone's got anything interesting to say now, when this topic has been milked as much as it is. Why not post something about Napster when something actually *interesting* happens to it?
Why try to inhabit other planets, when we can't even make life decent for all the inhabitants on this planet? I don't think the human species should infest the other planets while we got enough problems here on earth. Going into space will at best duplicate some of those problems.
And if a meteor should hit and destroy the earth, so be it. Things of that magnitude don't 'just happen' anyway..There's a system to life ya' know;)
Parent is troll..same story was posted before in other Microsoft related news. Replies on that post proved that the NT software was not at fault, but the third party written programs that were running on it.
"The obvious problem is looking like a complete idiot in public"
Problem? Hey, looking like an idiot never was this much fun:D I'd buy it for the cool looks alone:P
..how paranoid companies / people dig their own grave. This just shows, that what they do themselves (stealing stuff), they fear others will do to them as well. What goes around, comes around.
It's the true nature of things..I got a feeling Microsoft's demise is becoming more and more inevitable by the year. They'll fight to stop it, thus giving it more and more a place in their reality. Quite a spiritual truth, really:P
no more netscape, no more lynx...surfing the internet sure has gotten attractive now on Linux. A good browser was still missing in the linux environment..
As a programmer whose company is thinking of hiring help from a local company that uses Russian programmers, I'd say: don't do it.
The amount of complications possible by far outweighs the advantages (cheap!) in my opinion..
Like:
-You've got your working program. But hey! there are two major bugs in it..but the offshore team is too busy with some other job, or are not reachable for some other reason.
-From experience, everything you buy that is cheap at first, might turn out te be quite expensive later. I'd say, that might as well be true for hiring programmerskills. You're gonna need people to communicate to those programmers, even if they speak english or not. That person will cost money as well, unless you're willing to give up 70% of your own time to integrate, test, debug etc. the code you're getting from them.
-Losing control! What you don't make, you cannot control easily..i.e.: you can check the code itself, but not how it was manufactured, or what kind of design decisions were made.
I'm sure other/. will have better stories on why you should / should not do this..Basically, I'm just saying: don't make this complicated. If you need more manpower, try looking around in your own country first.
My 2 cents..
I think I know what the next Outlook-bug based virus is gonna do..
"My internet is so much faster since you mailed me that funny slash movie and unknown attachment! Thanks!"
It seems to me most people download this stuff just for bragging rights. "Yeah, I've already seen it, got broadband ya know"..What's the fun of watching these movies if you've already watched it in crap-o-vision?
These days, it seems that people who want to be part of the new 'elite nerds' (those who see movies before they even come out) don't really care about WHAT they're seeing, as long as they're the FIRST one of their friends to see it.
Here's an example of how it could work on the desktop..
Imagine yourself working on some important document, typing all night long. You've also got some music playing on your winamp in the background. Wouldn't it be nice to just shout 'next!' while typing, so you can skip that annoying song in the background?;)

Priceless
Who cares about angles...I want a device that stops the ball from flying off the table into someone else's face
Cool..does this mean I can rotate and zoom in on all sorts of stuff? Probably not :(
O well..not that there's much interesting on on TV these days anyway..2d or 3d

"Freespace 2 was one of my favorite games, and I wasted many hours playing it. "
So when did playing your favorite game and enjoying it become 'wasted time' on slashdot?
