Yes, you could say that the older voters were "educated" before scanning technology, but they should be able to read!. So,I've come to the conclusion that for the most part, Florida voters (with the exception of a few including me ;-)) are stupid. It is sad for me to say this as a Floridian. I'm sorry, but if you can't fill out a simple form to vote while immigrants natively speaking other languages struggle to take a US Citizenship test in English and pass, you probably should not be voting.

I got my HS education from FL also, (Duval County to be specific), and I can say I got lucky while others suffered. In middle school I had 7th Grade Pre Algebra, then 8th Grade Algebra, both offered under their "honors program". At the time, my middle school was doing down, and was blessed with the only 2 "good" math teachers. The others were incompetent. Moving up to HS I graduated with AP Calculus. I believe the problem is that the minimum for students to get their diploma is Geometry. (it goes Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, PreCalc/Trig, AP Calc here). From my experience with high school physics and university physics, a lot of the basic things are derived from skills taught in Algebra II and PreCalc. ..and if it's not required, not everyone will take math classes past Geometry unless they intend to go to college.

now, about the FCAT. Yes, I have taken the test, and last year was on a panel grading a batch of them. I graded the writing/reading tests from an elementary school and the results were TERRIBLE, which goes to show standardized tests do not improve education.

  20. if Intel's just measuring in speed on Intel, OEMs Face Lawsuit For Megahertz Marketing · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'm not an Intel fan, but as far as I see it, their claims are legitimate. They say their chips run at a certain Mhz, and that may be true, despite the fact that the performance may not be as good as a slower speed Athlon.

For example, let's get a 4cyl engine next to a 8cyl engine. You COULD redline the 4cyl at say 6000RPMS and only run the 8cyl at about 5000RPM. Most likely, the 8cyl will still perform better than the 4cyl running at 1000RPM faster. (Just an illustration, I dont know how accurate an actuall test would result)

While I don't agree that clock speed soley determines the overall performance of a computer, Intel may be telling the truth when they say they have the FASTEST CLOCKED cpu, but other claims after that may get them in trouble. Sure, their P4 runs at 2.2 or whatever the max speed is now and if you were to gauge it, it'd be correct. I think this is just a case of consumers needing to be more educated in shopping for computers.

This does bring up an question. If we disreguard cpu speed as a selling point and use overal performance rating, judging computers becomes more subjective. Just changing out RAM, or chipsets, or some other small item can make a significant difference in a PC's value. More reason to build your own system.
