I dont think I'd trust my company's IT with products from a company that forces its workers to eat dog food. That kind of harsh working condition must be bad for morale, and thus lead to inferior products.
If the retailers dont want their advertised prices posted, then why shoud we as the consumer go out and buy their products? I say they can keep their stuff, even though the price may be tempting.
I just started looking at fatwallet yesterday from a link posted by someone on a slashdot discussion. Are the "BlackFriday" lists supposed to be kept quiet within the stores and someone leaked them out? Or are they publicly announced in circulars?
hmm....in my setup I use 3 slots for the AGP graphics. (GeForce 256...yea, it ain't the greatest but it still does the job). The PCI below it is empty for air space as well as to avoid any IRQ conflicts. The slot cooler that exhausts the GPU's heat resides on the 2nd PCI slot. I plan to do this with all the computers I build, so that's why I use mobos with lots of slots
I have an 8 yr old bro and although he doesn't use a computer much, I always maintain one in his room for his use. I used to dual boot win98 and linux on his computer like mine (except mine dual boots w2k) so he can choose what he needs for the games he plays. Turns out, he used linux more often than the windows...and I've never talked about windows and microsoft with him like we do here on slashdot. Given that, he is able to use both OSes fairly well for his level. Once when I was out i had left my computer on Win2k running and when I came back he typed up a letter for me and drew a picture using Adobe Illustrator..which kinda amazed me b/c I only showed him Illustrator once a long time ago. On the Linux side, he likes the Gnome games as well as Tux Racer and Chromium B.S.U.
Eventually my "support" for his win9x became a nightmare and I just asked him point blank "do you need windows?" and his response was "no, I mostly use Linux".
I work at the help desk at my univeristy (which I will not disclose) and for a while we kept getting spam from email addresses that were from a particular ISP (which I will also not disclose) in the help desk inbox. So the network admins blocked email connectivity to that ISP, but later we got calls from students using the blocked ISP reporting problems receiving mail from the university email accounts. So the admins had to unblock the ISP.
**I dont have the exact details on what was blocked from the ISP.
I got Bellsouth DSL working fine on my Linux router. I specifically requested the external ethernet modem (connect to pc via NIC) and was a cinch to setup on the Linux box. On Windows (i had to verify that the DSL indeed worked) I had to reboot several times as the BEllsouth CD installed quite a bit of crapware.
Unfortunately, my Parallel Port AcerScan 620P doesn't work on SANE. So I have to keep a Windoze partition incase I need to scan some documents. Also, my Physics and Diff. Eq. classes require use of Excel and MathCad. OpenOffice is fine for word documents, but I have YET to find an alternative (open or propreitary) spreadsheet that has all the data analysis features that Excel has. MathCad 7 works under WINE, but the files i have to open are Mathcad2000, which wont' install on WINE.
..Anyone want to offer suggestions in these respects? Oh yea, the AcerScan is a nice scanner, so I'm not giving that up.
Some films released today already do this, but since there's no excuse now...they can put BOTH Fullscreen and Widescreen formats on all DVD releases, along with the multilanguage sounds and subscript, as well as the other crap that comes on DVDs.
I mean, come on! I think widescreen's just a ploy to sell more 16:3 tvs. Sure the pano effect looks nice even on a large 4:3 tv..but what about the folks with only a 20" tv? Why the Fsck should I buy a widescreen TV when everything else comes in standard format.
Perhaps I'm too young to remember exactly or how accurate this is, but I think back in the 80's everyone had to RENT telephones from AT&T (or bellsouth?). Don't know how much they charged, but considering I can pick one up today for $10, rental seems a PITA
Well, the ms.a.microsoft.com that's running on Linux has an uptime of near 260 days while http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?mode_u=on&mod e_w=on&site=www.microsoft.com shows a much lower uptime.
I dont remember what it was called, but there's this joystick console that contained 10000+ games. It had games in the nature of DigDug, Pacman, and other Namco (i think) games. My uncle had gotten one a few months ago. It was a red joystick console device. Pretty neat.
Imagine having to develop software on a keyboardless computer. Don't people realize how long it takes to "write" a parentheses, curly bracket, colon, semi colon, astrick, percent, or cash sign and hope the recognition software identifies them correctly? I have a PDA and it takes special strokes to create even the mundane characters like x and k, even more complex for * and $ and some characters I have to switch to the keyboard palette. (like _ ).
Just now, I tried to enter in the characters listed as they are, and I got an error from slashdot:
Growing up, I only noticed 2 frequencies for RC cars..somewhere along the lines of 22Mhz and 44Mhz. And believe me, if you get two of the same cars in the same range, one remote will own both of them. (Imagine the look on my face when playing with a friend's car realizing all the time MY car was havocolly running my remote HAD NO BATTERIES in it).
I do believe that cordless phones automatically select channels (synomomous to frequency?) that provide the least interference, and this technology is continually improving. I've had 2 sets of 900Mhz cordlesses in the house on separate lines and didn't have any crossover. I've also never interferered with a neighbor's cordless phone.
Why don't cordless keyboards/mice work the same way I don't know. But I've never felt the need for a wireless keyboard anyway. (cordless mouse may be good for presentations). You can call me old-skool, but Wired computing is the only way to go. Wired Network, input devices, displays, etc. I dont make any 'sensitive' phone calls, but if I did I'd whip out the old cord phone.
The "Final Decree" refers to "Windows Operating System Product." If Microsoft comes up with a new Windows system but calls it something else, do these judgements still apply? I would think more approprate wording would be "Microsoft developed Operating System"
I find Gaim to my liking. Haven't tried the $25USD Trillian, but Gaim works like a charm. It even alerts me when mail comes into my Y! account...and it's free. The linux version is great...well the Win32 could use a little more work.
Who would you rather have cutting you open and tinkering with your internals? Someone who's had years of hands-on experience and hardcore studying or someone who got their degree online?

Wiggum: alright Lou, send in the swat-bot
(female robot comes in house, sprays taffy on fighting Simpson family, then drags them to front door)
Wiggum: okay boys, take 'em away,
the swat-bot: NO WAY! this is MY job!
Wiggum: (switches robot off) Too bad real women dont come with one of these.
Yo, boss, we can make more money if we charge $50,000 for each user who wants the source code to windows.
Bill G.: I don't know...there's a lot of people out there who are seeing a lot of windows for free lately..

The surface of a Smart Display will be touch sensitive allowing you to interact using a finger or a stylus
Now I can actually finger a user using a real finger.

Shouldn't 640Mhz be enough processing power for everyone?

Would you rather hand-write code or type it?

Fingerworks's products are gesture-based keyboard-and-mouse "surfaces" that require zero force to work with
I guess the sysadmin closed his office door too hard, the wind must have hit the CTRL-ALT-DEL buttons simutaniously.
Skinner: (on intercom) The rehearsal for characters in the new movie will be right here in our school's cafeteria!
(in classroom, all hats get sucked to the roof)
Skinner:oh, yes the air conditioner system will be fixed this weekend.
