  1. China can't keep all the news out. on Falun Gong Hacks Chinese Satellite · · Score: 3, Interesting

With the internet now readily available in Beijing, it's very difficult for the ChiComs to keep news like this from the general public. I seems to me at first glance that tricks like this could be a good way to undermine a particular government's confidence in it's "right" to rule. Similar stunts all put together over many years time (e.g. Boston Tea Party) have worked in the past...

Thanks for the explanation. I think I understand now. Obviously the (0) thing is off (I think I meant(1)) but Geez...Something about that equation always confused me.

  6. Re:Gallileo's experiment is misleading. on The Most Beautiful Experiments in Physics · · Score: 1

Isn't this really only half the story though? IIRC a feather and a bowling ball only fall at approximately the same speed and the reason is because they are relatively the same mass relative to earth. If we're talking about a mass that is say 1/6 earth (e.g. the moon), the accelleration is going to be a lot more than 9.8m/s/s due to the mass of the 2nd object. When we assume 9.8m/s/s accelleration for objects on earth we're merely assuming a mass of 0 for M2 in this equation: F = (G * M1 * M2) / R^2

So the whole experiment always seemed a little hokey to me.

  7. new business model on Gateway as Content Distributor? · · Score: 2, Interesting

  8. Not a 1st amendment issue on Video Games Not Protected Form of Speech · · Score: 0

What are we missing here? This is not a first amendment issue. Constitutionally speaking, state and local governments have the right to set their own decency standards.

If you don't like it, move. The federal gov't is [supposed to be] restricted from setting these types of standards (see Campaign Finance Reform), so should be able to find some place to live if you don't like it.

I don't think local governments should be doing that so much but under our federal constitution, they can

What you're saying is that the hoax is quiet well written but not as good as it could be. Those of us who have been there would catch this. i.e. if this article was for honest real, listening to Christian Rock would put this man in the heathen bin, not the "cleaned up" bin.
