Dear Janis,
I must say I was shocked by your article in the LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/suncomme ntary/la-oe-ian2feb02,0,2630989.story?coll=la-head lines-suncomment)
I too am a musician, engineer and a journalist, and have what I feel is a firm understanding of music law. The article you wrote fails to make one very important point: it is one thing for an artist to offer their music up as a free download (provided they have the rights to it) and its a very different thing for people to download something that the artist has not authorized. There are many musicians who offer free downloads on their websites, which is a great promotional opportunity. Buy peer 2 peer services offer the potential for people to get any music they want (for free) without the artist's consent. A good analogy would be a market giving away free samples, and then saying since that increased food sales, all the food in the store should be free.
I highly suggest you write a follow up to your article as it is perpetuating the notion that music should be free.
The website even looks like it was designed by microsoft?
Who the hell wants another windows clone? Linux isn't coming to the desktop anytime soon, when are these companies going to learn. You want unix on your desktop, buy a Mac.
BAH! Rather then try and make something original, the xTunes project just copied pre-existing software. This is the problem with thing like KDE, the GIMP, etc. They're just bad imitations of good software. The open source community has an opportunity to make innovative software, instead they seem hell bent of making clones of windows software and poor copies of mac stuff.
There is no way in hell you can argue that xTunes isn't a (pathetic) attempt at an iTunes rip off. Thats what the issue is about here, so don't try and pretend like the xTunes guys aren't trying to bite off apple here.
Actually, Watson was a rip off of Sherlock. Sherlock came first. That is why the watson people can't really complain. Apple kind of just took it back. And xTunes was utter shit anyways. Dreadful at best. Who cares.
Umm, have you used Omniweb? These two screenshots illustrate the difference.

I don't really like the tabs, they take up too much screen space. I like OmniWeb because is it has a very minimal interface. I want to see the page I reading, not crap all over the place from the browser. I just use the dock to manage multiple windows, which works great, and effectively does the same thing.

I heard from Digidesign that it'll be like another year until they move over to OSX. Those guys are so slow about everything. Just get logic when the OSX version is done =)
They always have the highest amout of replys below my threshold, which is pathetic cause mine is set at zero. All these trolls make stupid, uneducated posts about macs and its obvious that they haven't used one since 1989! over 50% of the posts are bogus!
Emagic is still finishing the OSX version of Logic. It'll be able for download from their site when it is done. They also make a USB interface called the 2|6
HP who in the what now? Who cares. How many mac users have even HEARD of HP MyCD. This is a non-story slashdot =P

Faster than a mouse, you can switch pages, and without the clutter of tabs.
Installed sucessfully on my Quicksilver 867 and iBook 700. No problems thus far =P

Its wrong and it hurts musicians and people in the industry.
I had the exact same thing happen for all of my mail accounts. I found it rather peculiar.

OSX sounds like its exactly what the man's looking for.
It really does look like the fan off a 911 though!

THe real story here is how the hell they got OSX to run on that SE 30. http://www.wired.com/news/gallery/0,2072,51231-339 5~3394,00.html
Umm....they do. You should do some research before you make posts. And besides, its not apple's fault that Quark isn't running on X.
