Madhatter is x86. From my understanding from countless presentations from Sun, it is going to be their Linux desktop/workstation solution. That includes the hardware (they mention Opteron) and software.
Also, for "just another gnome desktop" , this looks surprisingly good. I currently use Ximian xd2 , but I don't see it too much of an improvement over BlueCurve - unlike its predecessor which blew away Redhat's default gnome install. Maybe Madhatter can bring this feeling back.
WOw, maybe they will build elevators to the moon next! Then perhaps escalators to each planet! Then a "Restaurant at the End of the Universe" wouldn't be completely out of the question:)
Did anyone else notice this reference to Nmap above ssh? I had to take a double take when she typed ssh with root in the same line ; I wonder how many people understood that....

Does EA have the patience to wait this out? Will the developers in Austin have to give an immature date just to keep the suits happy at EARS ? EA likes to release early and often, and from what I hear, this release is not going to be early. It is going to be a lot of work and the developers are trying to do it right. UO is pretty much a cash cow for EA , continuing to pull new users from Asia and Europe (mostly Asia).
If they do this right, they can get those users and an entire slew of users from North and South America that have been waiting and waiting for another UO-like game to come around. After the horrible turn around of game play in PSW/MMORPGs that resulted from EQ (level based, 6 months to lvl 50 for average gamers) , I for one would welcome this release.
"Microsoft also warned today that the era of "open computing," the free exchange of digital information that has defined the personal computer industry, is ending."
Does this mean open source software or does this refer to the rampant warez/pirating scene that has existed for as long as I can remember? Or does it possibly mean both?
It does appear that MS is getting more aggressive in their licensing. Personally, I thought the XP licensing was pretty aggressive. But I guess I've accepted it because I was not really surprised when I saw a story describing their latest licensing escapades .
It basically describes how MS plans to end the "XP pro for corporations" pirating party by fixing/rewriting the algorithm used to generate product keys. They also plan to shaft the business customers already using valid keys by forcing this update into a service pack which will require all machines to get a new "valid" key.
That is so true! After getting a GBA 6 months or so ago, I tried SO many ways to get my display "viewable". I bought the magnified lense and the light, which sucked tremendously. Really the only thing you can do to get decent gameplay is to sit directly under a lamp and kind of tilt the screen til you see it. They totally dropped the ball on the display.
