Why are they pulling support? If it's because they don't have the extra money, you can't really blame them. Same goes with lack of interest. But if this is some sort of anti OSS stance they are taking, then it's something to be concerned about.
I've had VERY bad experiences with CIBC(losing records and double charging large amounts etc.). Maybe it was only the fault of the local branch though, who knows.
"SCO spokesman Blake Stowell echoed those sentiments, telling eWeek on Friday that Microsoft was not an investor in SCO through this deal. "There are only two investors in this deal: BayStar Capital and the Royal Bank of Canada."
Thanks for the info eweek, I was about to open a bank account there.
The only dubious thing in my mind about the moon landing is the use of thin gold foil for spacecraft walls. Can someone point me to a link that explains how this is possible? Honestly, I WANT to believe int the moon landing, but my gut says its fake.
Personally I want to try Mandrake 9.2 out, but don't have the money to pay for mandrakeclub. Of course I will be fair and wait for official public release.
Speaking of the moon landings, I hope that china doens't stop after the PR dies down, and actually does some cool stuff like permanent moon bases and manned mars missions. With the amount thats been spent on redundant spy satellites and expired/ing bombs by the military here in america we could have done some much more interesting and beneficial(to humanity) things.
The reason linux is viable to some, and not others all boils down to marketshare economics. Some people will only use the most popular platform, thus getting the widest field of software and hardware options. There is nothing that linux can possibly improve upon to apease these people, except to get more popular. Pretty much all it can ever do to beat MS, is to grow slowly(as it is doing) untill it reaches the level of critical mass where it will get enough hardware support and 3rd party software alternatives. The level of critical mass is currently unknown, but some good signs are the video card drivers for ATI and NVIDIA.
Actually, I've never had a better movie playing experience than on linux. Have you tried playing a vid on linux before? Mplayer and Xine both have every codec you can think of, and they play smooth perfect video. Not to mention the ease of switching to tv-out for watching on the TV.
Unlike windows, there are several popular linux email apps. It would be unlikely that someone would write a virus to simultaniously exploit several completely different programs.
That article has all the typical anti-linux trolls rolled into one, along with several new ones. For example to those who don't feel like reading it, he compares linux users to terrorists and communists all in the same article. He also blames the majority of viruses and malicious hackers on linux, and p2p software theft as something caused by the linux community. Truly an overdramatized troll.
It performs well on low end hardware, and has excellent video quality(best I've seen in compressed video). Divx is significantly slower at high quality settings, and with slightly more artifacts. I believe xvid is LGPL too! Too bad without some lobbying money it doesn't stand a chance for Hollywood.
And what is it that creates "sheeple" and ingnorant mobs? The government designed and run public education system. The goverment PREFERS this, it designed our education system for this. If people learned to think for themselves while they learn other stuff in school, our country would be a much better place. Currently they are taught conformity and how to follow blindly. We must reform our education to improve the efficacy of our current system.
Still better than MS Toaster tm. , which must be bought inseperable from the countertop, and costs hundreds of dollars. Not to mention the random fires and worm infestations that would afflict your kitchen.
WTF is america becomming? And why is nobody trying to stop it? The media needs to report these things to the common people, but why aren't they doing so?
That's all well and good, but you have to admit that XFree86 is a little slow and hesitant to getting new features(otherwise directFB would be redundant).
In case someone didn't rtfa and was wondering what was funny about the article headline:
Jurassic can be used to mean "really big" and pot plants might mean "cannabis plants", and since they are illegal, certainly putting giant ones for sale would be a strange thing.

Apparently they are only giving the Windows and OSX versions away, even though linux versions exist.
I wonder if MS had anything to do with this?

I just use my palm m105 with the weasel ereading program, and can convert nearly any file format into it's drm-less ztxt.

"Lard McGroom"
That's gotta be a fake name. It's like what someone would fill in on a NYT registration or phone into Moe's Bar.

I'm not implying a Microsoft conspiracy, just there may be some hostility to OSS at phoenix.
Phoenix Technologies is the same company that forced Phoenix(webbrowser) to change it's name to Mozilla Firebird.
Correction, it is GPL, not LGPL.

I'd like to know this too. I've been strictly using the bin versions to save the compile time.
The internet acts as my second memory, second hearing, and second sight.
